Are you taller then your parents?

My dh's very unscientific theory is that sons will always be at least one inch taller than their fathers. I try to tell him that's a bunch of bologna but he doesn't want to hear it.

I think it's just wishful thinking on his part, I'm short (5'3'') and his mother is shorter than me, so we've got short genes on both sides of the family. We really hope the boys don't take after the short people!

I hate to disappoint him, but my DS#1 is 6 ft on a good day and his DF is 6 ft 4 in! Things aren't looking too good for DS#2 at this point. He's around 5ft 6 in now, and I don't think he'll be getting too much taller!

I figured with my family none of my kids had a chance of being small. DS is predicted about 6' 2", DD about 5' 8", other DD is predicted at 5' 7" but is very petite at 7 yrs. She's already 4+ inches shorter and 10 lbs lighter then her twin. MIL is only 5' 2" and it looks like dd is going to take after her. FIL was 6' 4" and BIL's are all over 6', but SIL's are between 5' 4 and 5' 7".

I'm an inch or so taller than my Dad. And my mom's only 5'1", so yeah, I was taller than her when I was 12.

DS#2 - 5' at 9 yrs and projected to be over 6'4". He is wearing 2 shoe sizes larger than his brother was at the same age.

My kids get all of their height from my Dad's family. All of the men are 6'+.

I had the shortest parents in the world... my Mom was 5' and my Dad was 5'5" and I AM SHORTER THAN THEM!!!

My son is 6 ins taller than me at 13. His father is 6' and his GRANDMOTHER is 6 feet tall, too!! His father's height was stunted by an illness in his teens, he should've been a giant because of his family's height. I am sooo glad my son has HIS genes!

I am 5'10" my dad is 5'9" and my mom is 5'8" so I'm taller then both of my parents so is my brother he's 6'3". Of course I think my parents are shrinking now that they are older!

My dad is 5'7" tall. My mom is 5'1". I'm 5'1 3/4". So BARELY taller than mom. My sisters are both in the 5'4" range and SKINNY. I won't use the word I have in mind for BOTH of them!!! Its not appropriate for a family board!

I was looking at some kids at school yesterday and thinking how tall these kids are compared to their parents and got to thinking are your taller then your parents, women are you taller then your mom, men are you taller then your dad? Just curious.

I am 5'9" and about the same height as my parents. By the time my son and daughter each turned 11, they were taller than I am. I feel short standing between them at church!

I'm 5' 9", my mom is 5' 6" and my dad is 6' 1". My sisters are 5' 9" and 5' 11", my brother is 6' 1".

According to the height predictor, my dd5 will be 5' 5.5".

Also according to the height predictor, I'm supposed to be 5' 7". That's not too far off.

My Mom was 5'11" and I am 5'9'. My guess is now she is closer to 5'8".


My son is shaping up to be taller than his dad. He just turned 12 and is close to 5'9". His dad is 6'1". He already gives his dad hand me down shoes
