Are you spoiled too?

We have been DVC members for 5 years now and I am finding it more difficult every year to settle for a regular hotel room when vacationing. We had to stay at the WL last week for 3 nights while my husband was at a convention at the Dolphin. The whole stay I was comparing the room to a 1-bedroom. I hated that there was no iron or ironing board. The amount of space was awful hard to get used to. There's no place in the room to just sit and relax except on the beds. Since there are no coffee makers in the rooms I couldn't get coffee until 6am when the shop opened up! And where's the jacuzzi tub?! We are getting so spoiled that even when we go somewhere other than WDW we are only staying at hotels that have 1-bedrooms like Residence Inns or Homewood Suites. Anyone else having the same problem?

Actually, we're not yet spoiled. We went to Vero a couple of weeks ago, and since we weren't getting in until late saturday, we opted for an Inn room on Saturday, and then switched to our one bedroom on Sunday to conserve points for a second vacation this year. It really worked out very nice, and we didn't regret it at all, the Inn room was very nice. We'd do it again easily at the start of our trip. I wouldn't go through the hassle at the tail end of the trip, but for the first day or two an Inn room or Studio is great. We also did the same thing for a Boardwalk trip, we stayed in a Dophin room for the first day until our reservations at Boardwalk were available. It was great, there is still the Disney feel to the Swan and Dolphin resorts. I think the trick is to progress up to better and better accomodations if your staying at a couple of places during your trip. But, I do agree with you regarding non-disney hotels, we also find ourselves looking for suites to stay in instead of just rooms. They never are as nice as our DVC villas, but they are better than your standard fare.

Actually I don't think that I would count an Inn room at Vero as a regular hotel room. We stayed in one a couple years ago and found them to be pretty roomy. Plus they have a small kitchenette like the studios at most DVC resorts. There really is not a place to sit and relax in the room like a studio or 1-bedroom. But we found that we weren't in the room much since we were only there 2 nights. We stayed at the Dolphin in a corner room with a balcony last year and it wasn't too bad. They did have an iron and coffee maker in the room so that helped. Guess that I am the only one that is totally spoiled!

Hi Eva, I have been staying in one bedroom suites or larger for some time now. You are right that a regular hotel room is just too small. You have to be careful when making reservations not to assume that a suite is really a bedroom and a seperate living room. It is not always the case. I stayed at a one bedroom suite at the GF and it really was just a large one room bedroom. It was one of their honeymoon suites. This happens quite often but I usually don't mind if it is for one night, more than one night is too much for me. I spend a lot of time in my room and like to relax. I can't do that sitting on a bed or in one of those chairs that are in most rooms. aka Tony

Oh I wouldn't say that, maybe just a couple more stays and we'll be the same way. You've probably got a good point about Inn rooms and studios as well. Comparing to a regular hotel room does help you appreciate the advantages of our DVC purchase, though, doesn't it.

You are right about being spoiled. We just stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in two adjoining rooms for a couple of nights before moving to the BWV. A few years ago I would have been thrilled. It is a beautiful hotel but it wasn't a 2 BR at the Boardwalk. When we got to the two bedroom villa, it was like, "oh my this is soooooo large." And then all of the other stuff too. Yes we are spoiled!!!!

We just went from one extreme to the other -- 5 days in an OKW 1-br followed by a 3-day cruise (which was followed by 3 days at VWL).

When we joined, we said we'd go to the other WDW resorts now and then, especially the Poly, which was our first onsite stay. Ten years later we have yet to actually do it. We just can't give up our 1-br

We haven't even stayed at our home for the first time yet and I am "spoiled" . When we were condsidering which incentive to take, I decided on the $5 off because I couldn't imagine staying at a regular hotel room when we could be staying at a DVC resort. We ended up at AKL last month and the whole time I was thinking about how little room we had and couldn't wait until our first stay at our "home" BCV.

I had to laugh that you wrote "We HAD to stay at the Wilderness Lodge." Now THAT shows how spoiled we are! There was a time that I would have done anything to stay at ANY Disney resort. Now I find myself missing all those little comforts. A vacation is so much more of a vacation when you have a kitchen and an extra room. We always said we'd try all the resorts, too, but I don't want to give up my DVC resorts either! And, talk about spoiled...We've decided we don't want to stay in studios anymore. It's one bedroom or more for us from now on!

I like being spoiled. My wife and I "had" to stay at the Swan while I was at a conference. It was terrible as compared to the 2 room villa at OKW we are accustomed to. The only thing that made it palatable was the fact work was paying for it and who am I to complain about a free room at WDW.

This is SO TRUE! Our last trip we had a studio at VWL for 5 nights, then figured we'd save some points and booked the weekend at CSR, then on to a 1 bedroom at VB for 5 night. What a mistake! Five years ago I would have loved staying at a resort like CSR, but after leaving VWL all I could do was mentally compare the two and CSR came up way short.

Yes, we are spoiled. We have been DVC members since 1992. We have two daughters 6 and 4. From 1997 till 2000, we have always stayed at BWV. Last year, we could not get a room so we had to stay at OKW. Try telling that to a six year old - who only remembers staying at BWV. It was difficult, but she learned to like the pool.

This year, we have ressies at BWV and added-on points for BCV.

I Love my DVC stays very, very much but I also enjoy staying at other WDW resorts. I go to FL (I own a home in FL also) at least 4 times a year, I go for business and pleasure and sometimes I do not want to use DVC pts if I am saving them for a family trip or trip with friends so if I can get a great AP discount rate on a non DVC resort I love staying at the different resorts. We will also switch resorts for Fri & Sat nights to save the very high weekend pts and go to a non DVC resort and we enjoy it very much. I have stayed in almost every WDW resort but a couple and I have enjoyed all my stays. Of course there are some resorts that I like much better than others but really all the WDW resorts are nice. Of course my favorite by far is my DVC home BWV, I just love this resort, and I live (and have lived all my life) 20 minutes from Atlantic City! But in all reality Disney's Boardwalk and the real Atlantic City are about as much alike as night and day, I always get a good laugh when I read people say they do not want to stay at the Boardwalk because it is too much like AC! I always think to myself, "What Atlantic City are they thinking of? Certainly not the one in NJ!" So after a very long winded reply, my answer would be no we are not spoiled and only want to stay at DVC resorts. We are spoiled and only want to stay on site but in all honesty there are many non DVC resorts that I like much better than some DVC resorts.

We are SO spoiled! There is no going back. We now compare everything to our experiences with DVC. We are bewildered that our friends who do not belong to DVC would still consider vacationing with kids all crammed into one hotel room after hearing us rave about the quality and space of the DVC accommodations. We just assume that everyone would jump on the chance to vacation in peace and relaxation. I love my kids, but I don't need to hear them snore or make a trip to the bathroom at 4:00 a.m. And I don't want to trip over their sneakers on the way to my shower in the morning. We all need a little space! And how about that cup of coffee on the balcony in the morning? Ah, yes, almost there...

We stayed in a 2BR BWV for my sister's wedding Feb 2000. At the time our twins were 2 & my dd was 6. The twins had never stayed in a hotel before. Last summer we went to a water park on our way back from visiting the grandparents and spent a night in a "regular hotel". We only got one room. We walked into the room and the kids wanted to know were the rest of it was! They thought all hotels had more than one room.
