I dropped my 4 year old off at pre-school this morning. The car in front of me pulls into on of the two handicap spots. She has no sticker or mirror hanger and is not handicapped that I can tell.

There are parking spots directly across from her spot (several) and one three cars down.

Are you really in that big of a hurry that you can't take the extra 5 seconds to walk three cars further?

I see several people do this at the school. It's not a lack of parking spots. I am so happy to be a healthy, active person I can't imagine using a handicap spot to save a few extra feet of walking.

Vent over.

I beleive some people think they really are that important. I hate when people do that.

Some parents are not happy unless they can drop their kids off directly in front of the door…same goes for pickup. It's annoying. At my kids' school, there's a specific drop off spot or you use the lot to walk your kid in. I always get behind a parent who needs to get out of the car to help her kid get the back pack on and give junior a kiss. Use the lot! :lmao:

You should see the free for all at the high school! When I give DS a ride, there are people who pass others in areas where cars aren't even supposed to drive and tons of them totally ignore the school zone speed limit. I love the people who slow down from 40 to 30 in a 20 mph school zone so that they can get to one of the traffic lights faster. All of these people obviously believe that their time is VERY important.

I think it's simply a total disregard for anything and anyone beyond themselves. People tend to make up their own rules. Consideration for others rarely fits into the process.

There are time when I miss the grade school. Dropping off/picking up is not one of those times. We had a circular drive out front for the pick up/drop off and people would wait in line for their turn--there were parking spots. Usually this moved smoothly. There was always one guy, the same guy everytime, who would go through, like he was going to park and go all the way to the front of the pick up/drop off line, park his car and walk to find his children. I so wish we had the one kindergarten teacher from my oldest son's years in grade school. She would have called him out on it and asked him to get back in his car and either park or go around correctly. :rotfl: She was awesome.

I hate it when they think they are so important at the grocery store and park in the hash marks. There are no places for us to walk safely to get to our aisle. We end up in the road, getting splashed or almost hit, all because they cannot be bothered to use a real spot. Also when they park there, I can't see around them and almost have to pull out into the lane to see if there is a car coming--and it's always a huge SUV there that I can't see around at all. grrr.

Our High School has parents like that. They have 3000 kids to move, over 80 busses. The police have to close the road in front of the school every day for drop off and pick up so there are only 2 roads to do car pick up on campus.

I usually pick DS up at the library because it's before the busses, it is one way in and one way out. People are forever driving in the out way to rush to the turn about. The problem with that is they jam up people trying to get out and bind everything up. Drives me crazy!!

I have to say though I was pleased as punch the other day when I came out of the grocery store and a police car had it's lights on and was ticketing someone for parking in the fire lane. They were parked right in front of the ramp too.

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who gets irked at this!

At my son's preschool they have a loop that goes around the parking lot in front of the drop off/pick up door and almost all of the parents pull into the loop and park in it, some park directly in front of the door. In the beginning of the school year it was just a couple who did it, now almost everyone does it! I think me and maybe 2 other parents park in an actual parking spot and walk up. And the parking spots are SO close - there are often open spots in the middle of the loop so if you park in a spot your actually closer than parking on the back side of the loop! The kicker for me is when it's time to go, I can't back out of my spot becuase I have to wait for the line of cars pulling out of the loop! So even though I'm the one following the rules I get stuck waiting for everyone else to pass first.

I guess nobody else there thinks its a big deal, but it frustrates me to no end. Park in a parking spot...it's not that hard! :thumbsup2

Don't you know it's okay to park there as long as you A) leave the engine running or B) leave someone in the car??? :sad2:

People do this at my son's Elementary School too. Drives me nuts. One lady does it every morning... parks in the handicapped spot... then gets her 4yr old out of the car and sends him on his own into the school, while she stays at the car, in the handicapped spot. Now he has to cross through the line of cars that are dropping their kids off in the line. Irritates me greatly. Get in the line lady!

She is not the only one who does this, but most just leave their car there.

I'm with the people that say High Schools are really bad. As nervous as my mom was about me getting my license, she's happy that she doesn't have to drive in that mess every morning. The parking lot has a different entrance so it's not too bad unless you get there like 5 minutes before the bell rings. The end of the day is a different story. The parking lot is crazy. I always sit in my car for 20 minutes and let the buses and other people clear out before I leave.

Oh gosh, one of my major pet peeves. People think they are the most important people in the universe!

We live next to a little country market. There is a parking lot across the street from the market. (not even a wide street!) People will park in front of my DRIVEWAY and block me in ALL the time. I don't get it, there are actual parking spots and it's always empty..but they just HAVE to park closer in front of my driveway. I've had a chat with a few and they always say they didn't realize it was a driveway....right....you thought I parked ON MY LAWN! :confused3 People are NUTS!

We had a couple that would park their HUGE pick-up truck in front of the entrance to DD's daycare (which is also a firelane). The parking lot is set up so that you drive around in one direction (like a one-way circle). This truck would be parked in front of the entrance so that when you came out of the building, you couldn't see the driving area until after you were past the front of the truck. Also, if you were driving around the circle, you couldn't see the entrance of the building so if a little one darted out into the parking lot, you couldn't see them until they were in front of your car!

The school put flyers in every cubicle telling parents not to park there, but that didn't stop them. Finally, the director had to go outside 3 times in one week to tell the man to move his truck. Shortly after that, they left the school. I guess leaving was a better option than parking in the designated spots which were less than 20 feet away

I actually rolled down my window today to tell a lady she was "doing it wrong!"

She didn't even pull into a parking spot. She pulled into the second "lane" the opposite way of line. She got out of her car, walked through the cars dropping off and then back to her car (which is now blocking the parents who have already dropped off correctly and are trying to pull out to leave.)

I rolled down my window and yelled, "You're doing it wrong!!!" I just got an eye roll, but it made me feel better!

:lmao: I have said "you're doing it wrong" to myself in those drop off lines many times, but haven't had the courage to yell it out the window yet. :rotfl2:

Our elementary school parking lot is way too small and so the drop off line is terrible. Those people who need to get out and help their kids put their backpacks on, give them one last kiss, etc, need to park, but you need to get there 15 mintues before the first bell to get a spot, so they don't.

The middle and high school are even worse. They are right next to each other, with just one road leading in to both schools. They consolidated the buses and moved both schools to the same start time due to budget cuts, so it is a nightmare to get in and out of the parking lots. And then you have the new drivers in high school who want to drive to school, so instead of just dropping them off, mom has to switch seats after kid gets out of the car. It may seem to them that it takes just a minute, but when you're sitting behind them in the line and 10 of them do it, it really slows it down. dd usually takes the bus, but if I need to drive her we have to get to the parking lot no less than 20 minutes before school starts or she'll be late.

The genius parents at my son's middle school park across the handicap spaces. Meaning, instead of pulling into a spot, they just park their cars across the handicap spots. Each car blocks two handicap spaces and they usually sit there for twenty minutes or more. I used to come forty minutes early so I could be at the front of the line so I avoided the morons, but now I just come ten minutes after school gets out and everyone's gone. It boggles my mind the chaos that clogs the school twice a day with no one doing a darn thing about it.

Big pet peeve of mine, as well.

Actually, in my city, there is a class you can take to get "certified" to write tickets for people parking in handicapped spots that don't have a tag or plates.

Both my husband and I can now write tickets if we see someone parked in a handicapped spot that shouldn't be. The only thing that kind of sucks is that we have to be inside the city limits to write the tickets-and we live outside the city limits (so if I go to my neighborhood grocery store and see a vehicle in violation I can't do anything about it because it is not within the city limits). However, we make sure to bring out ticket booklets with us whenever we go into the city.

This is my pet peeve.... usually there is a teacher - at least at pickup - motioning cars to pull up, and some people just will not pull up. The same people day in and day out. Because they don't pull up, it prevents about 5 other cars from doing what they need to do.

Looks like I am not the only one irritated by this!

It's frustrating to be sure.

This is a pet peeve of mine as well, I find it incredibly rude & inconsiderate.
