I know this has been discussed before. However, with the current development in Iraq, the suicide bombers and how the war seems to appear not going as well as originally aniticipated, I started wondering if I need to make changes to my plans.

Coming from someone who had gone through 9/11, I until now would not think twice about making any change to my plans for our upcoming trips to WDW.

But now I am a little shaken with the thoughts of any of these horrible "possibilities".....

What are your thoughts?

I'm going to WDW in June. And frankly, I am TERRIFIED to fly. But I keep thinking to myself.. If I don't take that flight and I don't go to WDW and all my friends do. I am letting them win.

They want to control us with fear and I think it's best that we refuse to let them.

They is for terrorist and Saddam Hussein. I consider them one in the same.

Here are some reasons why I am not changing my plans and I am going to WDW:

1) As a non-combantant, the best thing I can do to support is to continue to lead my life as much as normal - that includes work, travel, play, spending, saving, family etc.

2) I will not live in fear and will live life to the fullest extent possible with the tools and abilities that I have.

3) As a Canadian not terribly pleased with my government's attitude (even though we supported in Afghanistan and lost troops both in enemy and friendy fire we should be helping in Iraq as well), the most direct benefit I can give to the US is to travel and spend my money there in support of the citizens and residents of the U.S.

4) WDW is one of the things that helps make the U.S. what it is - love the country or not love it, it is a unique place in the world and WDW is one the places that makes it so.

Thanks
Jason

Granted that my trip is not until December, 2003, but I do not have any plans to let this war rattle my life any more than necessary. By the time our vacation rolls around, I will be more than ready to leave the real world behind for 2 weeks. I'm already sick to death of nothing but war talk on the news. I know it's important, but I can't allow it to be all consuming in my life. I have to focus on the positive. So, that's why I hang out here and plan to vacation at WDW. War or no war, if WDW is still open, I will be there. Mickey

I still plan to take my niece June 1-5. If things change between now and then and my sister will not let her go...then i am not sure what I wil do. Probably "force" my son to go with me even though he says he is tired of going to WDW.

Our trip for Disney is planned for June 3rd-13th. My son graduates from high school in May, and this is part of our big celebration. This only happens once in a lifetime, and I refuse to allow terrorists to disrupt our plans. I know that many brave women and men are putting their lives at stake so that I may have the freedom and safety to perform these everyday liberties.
I will be more aware of my surroundings, and the people around me. There are going to be risks from here on in, I don't think those risks are going to ever change. I think we have joined the other countries in having to deal with terrrost activities in the U.S. for the future. I am going to work very hard at not being too afraid to live my life to the fullest, and hopefully set a good example for my children to do the same. DISNEY HERE WE COME!

Nope. I think WDW has a world class security system. I also believe that the airlines have better security restrictions than before the war and before 9/11.

Unless the airlines aren't flying and WDW closes...I am going to be there in 3 weeks over Easter...going back in June...going to fly to TN for midwestern drum corp summer music games...then back to WDW July 31, then to Vero Beach for a weekend and back to OKW for DCI finals on Aug. 9. In addition, I already have my flights booked for Dec.

I am not changing my plans. I have to support normalicy and the economy as much as I can!!!

Having served in the military, I can't help but to feel a bit guilty that with all the fine folks serving overseas, we're planning a vacation.

Nonetheless...We're still full steam ahead as far as our planning goes:)

I'm really more concerned with this new SARS disease thats going around. I would call my trip off for this reason before I ever called it off because of the war.

I agree that SARS does sound pretty intimidating. I know that in while we were in New Mexico a couple of weeks ago the hospital there was extremely cautious of this disease. Turns out that they had an outbreak of RSV. My sister's newborn caught it, and is just now starting to really get over it. If health officials announced an epidemic here in the states, Florida, then I would have to consider postponing trip until it was safe.

I felt the same way like the rest of the you until today. I don't think I will cancel any of my trips for this year. However, the thought was particularly triggered because I have been waiting for this Delta's new airline Song to be selling seats tomorrow, and I have to buy our tickets for Octorber (for Food & Wine and MNSSH) and Xmas, I started really thinking about all the possible bad things.

9/11 changed my view on many things. I would have never imagined in my life that WTC would have collapsed, something that I walked through EVERYDAY for 8 years......, it was absolutely the unthinkable that happened.

Yes an epidemic in Florida would stop me from coming - no doubt about that whatsoever

Thanks
Jason

What will be - will be!!!
I'm not letting it stop me coming all the way from England. If my time's up then so be it - at least my whole family will be together. There are talks of food rationing over here if the war continues - that worries me more (not really!!)
I'm sure that the good people over there would want the rest of the world to carry on - that's what they are fighting for.

Food rationing????
You've got to be kidding!!!
Who's starting that sort of rumor??

Anyway--we're going to WDW in may--as planned!!

Why do you not think the war isn't going well? Our troops are doing an awesome job they've only been there a little over a week. And our threat hasn't changed here in the states, we've known since before the war we would most likely be targets.

There are many things that are not going as well as how they were originally anticipated. It appears that it will be a much longer war with the outcome uncertain. Check out

I am not into discussing how the war is going, I posted this thread because I started thinking about the safety of my family.

Yes, I am watching SAR too, I hope this can be contained very soon. It would be a major disaster for WDW if there is an outbreak in Florida.

For those who are following SARS, the CDC updates its site with the number of cases being investigated. As of March 28th, there were 59 suspected cases across the U.S. - NONE in Florida.

Here's the link: CDC SARS report

I am going to move this to our Operation Iraqi Freedom board. Please continue this discussion over there.

We just got back on Friday... had a wonderful time. The parks were crowded, they had extended times at MK, and had fireworks nightly, and the moderate resorts were at almost 90% capacity.

I hope that no one changes their plans. It was a safe and wonderful experience... and a way to escape from the "real" world for awhile... although DH had to take his CNN break everyday...lol!~

As for the suicide bombers... they are threats being made by a desparate government regime that is going down. Yes, they will be apparent in Iraq and the surrounding countries, and possibly could happen here. We can't spend our lives not doing what we want just because something "might" happen. You would take the same chance going to your local Walmart, and no one would think twice about that.

The media is not our friend... don't be put off by what they have to say, because they can't report the whole story... and we shouldn't want them to... that information needs to remain secret, because if we know, the enemy knows. Also, what the Iraqis are telling their people is propaganda designed to make them think that things are going their way. They aren't. Don't be fooled by their broadcasts.

Live life to the fullest! Don't sit behind closed doors, that is not why our military, and the militaries of our allies are sacrificing their lives over there in the Middle East. They would want you to go about your lives, take your vacations, and enjoy the very rights and freedoms for which they are fighting and for which our country is known.

Go, have a great time!
