Are you mean?

Hello All,

I have read a few posts over the past couple of months about people feeling bad about they way they may have been treated here, and I have to say, it certainly seems to happen.

Someone may try to honestly offer a suggestion, or help... and someone slams them and tries to , IMO, look like the big man on campus.

Do you ever wonder if you are a mean person here? Do you use the anonymity of the internet to talk crummy to people? Do you treat or talk to your neighbors or co-workers the way you do to folks here, when they have a different view on something?

There certainly seems to be some catty behavior.
Mean people suck... even here.

I try really hard not to be mean. I try to offer constructive advice in a kind way, but I am not offended when someone disagrees or chooses not to take my advice.

I do get somewhat defensive when mis-information is posted as fact, or when people are giving advice based on false assumptions. I might get a little "insistent" when I re-iterate, and frustrated, but I still try not to be mean on a personal level.

I don't think I'm mean. I will say, though, that I think people who post on the CB asking for advice should have a pretty thick skin. There are all kinds of people on here, all with varying opinions, and a poster has to be prepared for that. Kind of like it is in real life.

I think I am very nice. I try to see both sides of every issue and when I post I do take peoples feelings into consideration. Basically, I post here the same way I deal with real life, I would never want to hurt a persons feelings in the real world, so I wouldn't do that in an internet world.

Yes, true. BUT there is a point where a lot of folks would say, "that's nasty!"
I guess Im asking, "Do YOU think YOU have crossed that line for no good reason once or twice? You personally have put me in my place a couple of times, but I've never felt like you were being mean. Wait... maybe I should go back and look! j/k (sarcasm is my middle name. But, someone might take that wrong I suppose.) Do you?

What bugs me is when one person will post something "different" on a thread, but not offensive, just different... then someone will post something of a reply that is mean and rude, and then it's like a few more meanies will jump on the band wagon.

Really, nothing wrong with blunt. I have seen a TON of your posts... I never saw mean. I think you are very funny sometimes... but I have a dark humor, so I appreciate that.

I have a mean streak. I always thought I was nice, but after years of hearing friends and relatives tell me that I have a mean streak a mile wide, I decided to do some introspection. I'm trying to be nicer now, but it is hard to change when you never really realized you were mean to begin with. I thought they were just breaking my stones...

I'm sure there are people who think I'm mean. I don't feel as though I am. I'm very to the point because I don't see the need in pussyfooting around, and I really don't have any sort of patience for people who whine about their troubles and yet have excuses for why advice given to them won't work.

I try not to be, and I really don't post all that much, but I can think of one occasion where I posted what I thought was just an opinion, and I got all kinds of comments including my favorite, the old "Wow, just wow." (For some reason that one always rubs me the wrong way.) I was told I was being harsh, etc.

So, am I mean? Probably more so than in real life, but still not what I would consider mean.

I don't know. Is what I post mean? Usually not although I have been known to lose my cool on occasion. Is what I think in my head but *don't* post mean? Sometimes. So am I mean or not?
