Are you like us seriously re-considering due to recent events?

No. I think the risk is the same as it was prior to Sandy (aka dumbest name for a weather event EVER).

LOL Stupid name, yes, but fitting for the aftermath, have you seen all the sand on the streets on NJ barrier islands? They are using snow plows to clear them

OP: I am very nervous about sailing on 11/8, but truth be told, I am exteremly nervous whenever I am not in control, I am a flying nightmare, horrible passanger in the car stomping on my imaginary break, helicopter mom, and of course paniced cruise passanger. With every vacation I do I am always checking the radar to see what is brewing and yes hitting a hurricane is rare but it is a risk that is taken when sailing during the season. Are we canceling, no-not unless there is something forming and yes, even before this past storm I would reschedule the trip- I am not risking injury to my children just for a vacation, could I be out lots of money, yes, but would I ever be able to live knowing that I willing put my family in harm-no.

Thank you! I am still without power, and that is no where near as bad as some other people are experiencing up here in CT, NJ, and NY. Unless the Fantasy was SERIOUSLY about to tip over, I have no sympathy for any of them. In fact, me and millions of other people would rather be on that ship then up here, especially since it was ONE NIGHT!! Loss of house, food, water, heat, or even a family member does not relate to one bad night on a cruise ship. Remember, this is my opinion because everyone I know is up this way.

 Repeating what I said earlier: One can always find someone whose situation is worse, but that doesn't minimize what the folks on DCL's ships went through.

I am about to move embark on my third Disney Cruise all three taken at this time of year and all three we experienced some bad weather. Kids take their cues from the adults around them. Stay calm and so will they, Disney is great about making sure every guest has a great trip. We talked briefly about what happened, bought them flashlights and they are good to go. I love my children and would never put them in danger, but i do trust Disney Cruise Line with care and safety of my family. Our cruise leaves on my 11/10 and my children are 6, 7, & 8.

We are also sailing on 11/10 on Fantasy. Have another cruise scheduled for 12/2 on Dream. Did not even consider canceling them. Never thought about bringing flashlights. Good idea.

I would not let these recent events change my plans/thoughts on cruising. I disembarked the Disney Dream on 10/25....the last night the ship was rocking, but nothing crazy...and we thought about those who were getting on the next cruise....hoping they would be okay and get to enjoy the vacation they had been looking forward to.

Nothing is without risks....driving down the street is riskier than taking a cruise...flying on a plane...ect. My husband and I booked a cruise right after 9/11...people were afraid to go anywhere....and because of this were were able to get a super cheap rate on a balcony cabin on a cruise out of San Juan...airfare was also cheap because people were not flying....were we a little concerned? Maybe, but that did not stop us from looking forward to our trip and having a wonderful time.

I agree but one should put everything in perspective; they are back safe and sound and hopefully are not returning to more devastation caused by Sandy.

I agree.

How about I say there are have been much bigger disasters than Sandy. The earthquake/tsunami in Japan was much worse. Sorry north east, you should be happy it wasn't that bad!

See how bad that sounds?

There is no reason to trivialize someone else's experiences.

And yet that's what it appears to have become. :sad2:

On a lighter note, enjoy your cruise! :cool1:

How has it appeared to become that? I think it's bad for everyone. I just think one bad night is not as bad as 4 weeks with power( yup, I know they told someone he has to wait that long). If people that were on the ships or areas hit they shouldn't be complain, only thankful since they could have it worse. To me a really really bad night on the ship is better then not having power, though for people that don't have power or water I feel they have worse then me. I'm not complaining about JCP&L, everything in life happens for a reason

You know, a lot of people died. The people without power should be happy they only lost power and not their lives. Why are we bickering? Why cant we agree everyone had a bad time? Why do you need to rank who has it worse? This is not about any of that. This is about how DCL handled the situation. Most of those who were on the ship think it was handled poorly. End of story. No need to tell them they are wrong.
Again, I feel bad for everyone affected by this storm. And yes, the way it was handled and the way DCL has handled a few other things is making me thing twice about booking with them in the future.

Ok...keep it on track. This thread is for the discussion of if you would cancel or continue to cruise on DCL based on recent events. Stay on topic.

Not at all. We leave this weekend on th Fantasy and I can't wait. We will also be taking advantage of onboard booking for another cruise next fall. I trust the experience and knowledge of the crew. The same as I trust the pilots on my flights to Orlando. It does reconfirm my belief in travel insurance, however.

You know, my family and I lived through the Northeast Ice Storm of 1998.

Our home was damaged and without power, leaving us homeless for over a month.

For me, being on the Dream Saturday night, afraid that my whole family was going to die, was far worse.

I'm not bickering, I'm just stating what I think. No bickering from me. I feel bad for everyone, but I just have more prayers for people that are going through it all week rather then one night. One night is nothing, compared to some stuff I heard

OMG -- ENOUGH. We get it. And yes, you are bickering with everyone who post opposition to your comments. This thread DID NOT start out about Hurricane Sandy and the damage she caused to those on land. It was supposed to be a thread strictly about people on the ship who were afraid and had a horrible experience and were simply stating facts! Not a single one of them that I have seen has compared their situation to worse than what eventually happened later when the storm hit land!

There is plenty I, too, can say about my friends and co-workers who suffered great damage during this storm, but honestly this is not the thread for that discussion! This thread has gotten way off track and now seems to be about everyone besting everyone else for the best way to say it! Sissy_ib said it best above (well done).

I was on the Fantasy. I think I will probably not book another cruise again. I have thought about it, and I know logically that what we went through was a rare and isolated incident. There are two things preventing me from taking advantage of the 25% offer:

1. I think the stress and anxiety leading up to the cruise and worrying that it would be similar would be no fun, and not outweigh the fun i might have on a cruise

2. One thing that added to the stress of that night was the lack of control. I don't know the first thing about nautical matters, so I had zero information going into this ordeal. I know logically that we were probably never in actual danger of capsizing or anything, but if felt like it might, and I didn't really know an better. Also, I couldn't just leave. I could not say "this is dangerous for me, so I am going to remove myself". I was in the hands of a stranger, who I knew nothing about. It is similar to being on a plane I suppose (which isn't my favorite), but flights don't generally last that long.

The cruise was great before it got bad, but for me, the bad weather outweighed the fun I had prior to it. I look back on the vacation and don't think about the fun parts, I think about going through the storm. I don't want to ever have to go through anything like that again, and will not put myself in a position where I will feel like that.

I am hopeful that as time passes the emotional wounds from that night will heal, and I won't be afraid to sail. Today, However, I am not getting back on a cruise ship today or tomorrow.

I have been reading this thread the last few days and have debated on posting....I think it has gotten way off topic from what it was started at..
No, I would not reconsider my cruise that leaves next Saturday. WE book during November because prices are great, although it is hurricane season and we are aware of this. Most people know that getting stuck in a storm is VERY unlikely even though it is the season... I have very high anxiety so I'm sure if I was on this cruise I would have been going crazy, and been very hard to calm down..no body is saying the night on the cruise was any worse than sandy, it's different and they cant be compared...but it doesn't take away from how scary it is to be in a situation where you have to control, no wear to go and not even know where you are...

I was on the Fantasy. That one bad night will not keep me from sailing again (and I most likely will take advantage of the 25% off).

This says alot!

I do not feel scared to sail on DCL, as there are reoprts on FB and Cruise Critic of Carnival and RCL having similar scary situations during Sandy. This was not the typical hurricaine that you can simply sail around, it was over 100 miles wide. That being said, I am a little nervous about cruising in general. Mother Nature has been wild the past few years, and there is nothing anyone can do about that.

We are on the Dream in Feb, and have insurance, but not cancel for any reason. I will look into that more in the future, but in looking at the policies, many only refund 50% and do not cover Acts of God, which may be what this would fall under.

I would not have wanted to get on that Dream cruise, knowing it was only 3 nights, and most likely will be rough weather the whole time. (and after 20/20 hindsight after how bad it really was, I would have REALLY not wanted to go) But sine it was paid for and we would lose all our money if we cancelled, I probably would have gone.
