Some eco-warrior let all the gas out of our tyres last month, leaving a note on the windscreen saying, we'll do it again, because your car is a gas guzzler. The fact that it was a hybrid didn't enter their gray matter...

Well, they've struck again, with greater danger this time. Many cars along our roads and neighbouring streets have had nails hammered into their tyres. Again, self righteous notes. I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't criminal damage with the capacity to cause bodily harm!

Borrow a really big mean dog and keep them on a longish chain close to where the vehicles are parked. They will probably go after anything that comes into their territory. I would also enable your car alarm if you have one or consider getting one if you don't. Enough alarms going off will normally scare these folks away. They are usually scrawny little nerds.

Honestly, with this being the second time I would do a stake out and watch for the little b.... well, I guess I'll just say beasts to keep it PG.

Also, call your local police department and request extra lighted patrol in your neighborhood and surrounding areas. If they are hitting more than just your vehicle this is something that is a community issue rather than an individual issue and the police should be happy to oblige.

That's b/c the entire act is evil. They don't care about the environment - they get off on bad acts and want to do bad acts to hurt people.

I hope the perps are found and the law throws the book at them.

PS - And the type of car shouldn't even enter into the "is this good" calculus. It's people destroying other people's property to feel good about themselves, such a bad and evil intent.

Thing is, it could do some serious damage and actually seriously hurt someone. We had to stop someone taking her kids to school two houses down on a flat tyre. She was about to drive off...

Well, that would be bad, because then people would try to find a way to monetize it and charge us $5/gallon just to breathe.
They've been charging for air for a while now.

Report it to the police and tell them it's happened in the area. They can patrol.

Hah. The police here are woefully understaffed. We have reported it and their response was to "check your cars". We've purchased some security cameras and some dummy cameras. Won't deter these creeps - all they have to do is wear a balaclava and "strike" in the early hours.

Sorry that is your situation. Definitely get some cameras, and if you know your neighbors, ask if anyone has camera footage.

Can Nate give you their identity?

Are you parking in your driveway or the street? If you don't have motion lights that is the first thing I'd recommend and they'd be more useful in the driveway. Those and some cameras might at least get you some footage for the police.

Eventually these people might meet someone that beats the crap out of them, at least I hope that happens.

Nate fixed to note...

We have a driveway, but two cars and both won't fit, and these, uh, individuals only target cars on the road, away from the dogs. So far no-one has caught them red-handed.

That’s ridiculous. I’d consider myself an environmentalist, and I teach sustainability, and I’d really like to know how they think forcing you to buy new tires and throw away the (perfectly good, non-recyclable) tires is supposed to benefit the environment? A true environmentalist would be organizing neighborhood carpools or campaigning for better public transit. Sorry this happened to you.
