So we're trying to get the house ready to go back on the market. We've got boxes everywhere -- separated into piles for storage, donation, garage sale. I cant make up my mind about which pile VHS tapes belong! It isn't like we have that many...maybe about 100, but the only ones I'm waffling about are the classic Disney and Broadway (i.e. Camelot, Sound of Music - yikes I'm a nerd!). I know some have problems already, but we haven't touched any of these in a long time. I did try Bear in the Big Blue House and the sound was terrible!

Anyway, wondering what everyone else has done/is planning to do with VHS tapes.

I've got them boxed & ready for my spring yard sale.
I've marked them .50 cents a piece.
We had some out at last year's yard sale as well.
Some sold, some did not.

Whatever doesn't sell, I plan on donating to whomever will take them.

The ones I really wanted, I actually converted to DVD. The rest I gave to a charity based thrift shop.

Gave them all to AMVETS! You can deducte them from taxes, and they can sell them so that they can fund programs.

I'm keeping them, at least until we get rid of our van. Our entertainment system in the van is VHS.

Lori P. :)

I'm slowly replacing them with DVD's and taking them to Goodwill or the church rummage sale. I still have quite a collection though.

We actually still watch VHS's!:rotfl: Not too often, but yes we still do.

We have the older Disney movies that are on VHS and I don't really see myself going out and purchasing the DVD version of them, just to have the DVD. My brother eventually will put them on DVD himself.

We (or at least the kids) still wacth them. The TV in the living room (and basement) still has a VCR that the kids can control themselves. The TV in the family room and our bedroom has a DVD player only (those are bigger T.V's and would not look good with VHS. Heck they don't look as good if it isn't HD. ;) )

So the answer is, the kids still wacth them. Who knows for how long, but I figure we will drive them into the ground.

Our kids still watch them. My 3 yo can insert, eject and otherwise operate them. I find it quite liberating. She doesn't do well with dvd's. She can't read the prompts or the remote control captions.

We haven't bought any vhs in over 5 years, but I still have all the Disney videos (and a few others) the kids watched when they were little. My excuse for saving them is that they'll be for the grandchildren someday!

I have about 30 disney ones that i've been holding on to, but I think it's time to go. I just don't have room for them anymore.

I still buy VHS tapes at the thrift stores for $2 each. I buy the kids videos - Teletubbies, Wiggles, Blue's Clues, Thomas the train, etc. for my preschool age twins. My oldest dd is 15, and I still have all of her VHS tapes from when she was younger.

I'll keep the VHS tapes until our VCR's break and it is completely impossible to replace them. For the price of used VHS tapes versus new DVD's, I can buy 5 VHS tapes for the cost of 1 DVD, and that is the cheapest DVDs at WM. I like stretching my money and getting the most bang for the buck. :)

i still have all mine and plan on not selling them because i still have a vcr and some of them arent on DVD yet.

I still have my wedding, DDs births and ultrasounds. But that's it. I need to get them switched to DVD.

I gave all my kid friendly tapes to my dad and my sister in law to use in their classrooms, the rest were sold in a big box for $20. All they were doing was sitting here collecting dust since we don't even own a vcr any longer.

I never really thought about it. As long as my VCR still works, I'll keep them.

Absolutely keeping them - have 3 VCR's (actually 4 - if you count the one my DD & her DH borrowed and put in their travel trailer)..

Eventually I will probably convert them to DVD's, but I'm not in any rush to do so.. Meanwhile, I'll be the lady scooping up all the VHS tapes you're selling at your garage sales..:rotfl:

Also buying quite a few "blanks" right now - after hearing the last company that manufactures them just went out of business.. I tape lots and lots of shows to blanks so I can watch them when I feel like it..

Also just bought a wet VCR head cleaner as I imagine those will be hard to find soon too..

The only VHS I have left is a few things I taped off TV long ago that I'm not sure I could easily find replacements for. I got rid of everything else.
