So the new "tethered balloon" experience is in testing phases at DTD.

For those of you who don't know, this "hot air balloon" will take 30 guests 400 feet in the air for a 10 minute experience! It is "tethered" ie tied to the ground by a few ropes.

So will you plop down $16 for a trip 40 stories in the air?

I'd say something about your title, but I want my seagull back before next year.. :rolleyes1

I'm afraid of heights though, so no balloon for me!

Sounds like fun. I did a "real" hot air balloon ride a few years ago.

I would definitely do this. I'd also love to fly a helicopter around WDW to see the sights.

I think I'd like that more than an actual hot air balloon ride...tethered, not floating free! (yep, not adventurous.) I wonder how much of the World you can actually see up there...

You mean go up 40 stories in a balloon with nothing but a wicker basket keeping me from falling to certain death? No, thanks...my feet will stay firmly planted on the ground where they belong. Not that I'm much safer on the ground, but at least it's a shorter distance to fall...

I would assume at 300 ft you could see pretty muc all of WDW. I think I want to see it at night and see Wishes or Illuminations from there.

Well it would be over water *wink* So you might survive.

I thought it was 300ft for 6 min

From the Orlando Sentinel....

Disney says the first guests will go up April 1 -- next Wednesday. It reaches 400 feet about every 10 minutes, the company says. Prices are $16 general and $10 for ages 3-9. (That's tax included). It will be interesting to see what we can see.

Now I have done a 400 foot coaster, but not sure about this! :confused3

I does have a light inside, and at night, its a pretty cool sight! As far as I know, it hasn't left the ground for testing yet.........

I *LOVE* hot air balloons!!! I would totally do this, but be pretty bummed its tethered! I can't wait to take my kids up in a balloon... probably next spring (I don't think they are ready yet). There are 2 local ballooning families that will take you up in our area. I want to fly over our house :)

Yaaay Disney! Mike you are so going up with us! ;)

At least you will know where DTD is when you look up from Epcot and see the Ballon in the sky

OK, I'm NOT trying it on April Fool's day!!! :scared:

It looks like fun and the price isn't too bad. I would do it just for the photo ops. I am scared of heights though, so this could be a panic attack event too. :scared1::laughing:

I would do it. And I would say you can see ALOT from that height. I stayed at the Regal Sun last mnonth on a high floor with a "Disney" view and saw almost everything.

So you're ok with hurling down at break neck speeds but you're not ok with gently gliding up? I'll definitely do it. I've gone parasailing a few times at WDW and if I remember right you go up about 600 feet so this should be pretty close. They had one of these at Niagara Falls but it stopped running before I had a chance to do it. From driving by it looked like a large platform enclosed with a railing and I believe the platform was a metal grid so you could look down.
