I mentioned this on the News and Rumors board--considering how windy and stormy it gets during the year (especially in the summer), you would think that this is going to be down more times than it is up. I remember when Rob and I were at DLPR in September, 2006, and even though the weather was just slightly breezy, the balloon would always seem to be inoperable.
I know that this was a knee-jerk reaction to the giant ferris wheel that was supposed to be built near Sea World (which is currently on hold, due to economic conditions). But it seems to be an attraction that is ill-suited for Central Florida.
I saw this at SSR on Thursday. We were walking up the path from Grandstand and were almost stampeded by a horde of children screaming "Look! Look! A hot air balloon!"

You know, on a related note, I really don't look forward to hearing my kids whine about wanting to spend $16 a piece on a frigging hot air balloon ride of death. Ok, so the "of death" part is purely speculatory, but seemed appropriate.

My kids (5 year old twin girls) were begging me to go and I told (okay, lied to ) them maybe another day. This morning it was extremely windy and we were walking from BWV to the Beach Club for breakfast and they were complaining about the leaves and stuff flying everywhere. I chose that moment to ask them if they wanted to go on the balloon.
My Mom will be 80 soon and she's always wanted to go on a hot air balloon. I looked into it for her birthday but I'm a bit hesitant because she's got two bad knees - they told me that have steps to get into the basket but she has problems with stairs. This sounds perfect! And Mike can hold her purse for her!
You mean go up 40 stories in a balloon with nothing but a wicker basket keeping me from falling to certain death? No, thanks...my feet will stay firmly planted on the ground where they belong. Not that I'm much safer on the ground, but at least it's a shorter distance to fall...
