why, did he do something really great, like cure world hunger, cancer or fix the economy?

This is why I don't deal with professional sports, people seem to think too highly of professional athletes. I understand loving a sport and getting involved in the excitement, but worth saving the newspaper for you grandkids.

It was sarcasm. I didn't pick up on it originally either because the people around here acutely do feel that way sadly (both the OP and the post you quoted).
