Are you happy with your rooted nook color?

I swear every week I change my mind on what tablet I should get or if I should even get a tablet. I want something that I can get email, browse the web (especially disboards), read ebooks, and maybe be able to open and edit word documents. And it would be nice if it was flash compatible. Would a rooted nook allow me to do all these things easily? I'm also worried about the screen size - is it large enough. I don't want it to be like a smart phone where if I want to look at web pages I have to scroll around because the screen won't show the entire page. So tell me all about your thoughts on the pros/cons of a nook color!

I can't give you all the specifics that you are looking for. But my DD20 has a rooted nook color and she loves it!!

I am going to get a nook color today,:cool1:ordered the N2A root card off ebay...can't wait,as all the forums give good reports, and it sounds like it'll fit my needs the best(short of the Ipad option which is out of my range) I considered the tablet, but it sounds like the color rooted is more flexible....plus using the n2a card doesn't void the warranty....

Love it. I too use the N2A card. Just finished a free nook book and am now reading a free kindle book. Really like having both options.

I do like the Nook format on it better than the kindle app. I have games for the kids on it, check my email, and am waiting for Viggle for android

I am curious about this also. Would this allow you to use gotomypc?

About a year ago, I rooted mine using an SD card and directions I found on the internet. So far, I've found the user experience to be far superior to what I was getting with the stock B&N os. Initially, I was booting Cyanogen Mod from an SD card, but I eventually ended up going all the way and installing CM to the internal memory. The only negative aspect I've noticed is that the battery life is a little shorter than with stock os, but it's not enough to negate all the positive aspects of the root, such as full access to the Android Market. The stock os wasn't horrible, and I have no experience with the latest version of the B&N os, but I'm really impressed with CM.

Okay, I think I'm going to buy a nook color and root it. I was wondering what you do about music though? Ipods have itunes, is there an android app that you load music through?

Google Play is one you can download free. I know when I rooted, I had to go through google anyway, so it was pretty easy.

here's my experience so far...it's limited- I got the nook color, which I love:yay: I ordered a N2A card from an ebay seller (cost 15.00) which turned it into a full fledged android tablet (full enough for me at least:thumbsup2)
My only issue is I downloaded a library ebook, and haven't yet figured out how to get it on the full tablet, it won't 'read' it.
So I pulled the sd card out and turned it back into a regular nook till I'm finished with this particular title.:goodvibes
One good idea I found online was to get it going in android platform, then just download the Barnes and Noble app, sign in,and all my downlaoded (free) books are in the new tab....
I also got the kindle app,etc etc ,but like I said, using the original till I finish that book. or figure out the library system, whichever comes first. It takes some time to learn all these things!
ebay is a great source for addons for the nook...covers,etc.
BTW, the card I got doesn't void the warranty if needed, I just take it out if I have a problem for warranty work.

just wanted to add....after having this for a couple of weeks, and *finally* figuring out how I wanted to use it...:thumbsup2 I LOVE IT!!!!!!:thumbsup2
I had 2 issues to begin with. 1) the card I bought had the option of 2 different android systems, I hated Ice Cream Sandwich, and love gingerbread.
Took me a week to figure that out.::yes::
2)Google updated their app store to 'play'. Ugh....it refused to work. Till I searched some great android user forums, and found a simple solution. Now it ALL works so well,I fear I may get addicted!
For me, this was an inexpensive way to 'try' the whole tablet/reader thing.
BTW, I read both nook and Kindle books, they both have daily free books, but kindle has more apps and books for free. It's nice having the options.

I just got my Nook Color at Walmart yesterday for $160 + $30 gift card.My mom is getting her one today too. I love it so far! I am currently looking for the N2A card to buy (probably get on ebay.) I have a regular Kindle so I'm happy to be able to safely root this without voiding the warranty & also be able to get Kindle books. I also bought the Hunger games books on Kobo last month for $4 (all 3 books). When I root it I will be able to download the Kobo app too for those books. :cool1:Now I gotta get screen protector & a cover also.

Kobo has all 3 hunger games for 4.00? I have to go look, have fun shopping for your accessories...I got a pretty pink cover on ebay, and put some Disney scrapbook stickers on it...I enjoy it so much!

There were some codes to use on Kobo to get them for that price last month. Sorry can't remember the codes. Maybe you can google it to see if they still work. I got them either on here or a coupon board-can't remember.

My sister's and I just purchased a Nextbook Premium 8 e-reader/tablet for our mom's birthday. We went with it as it has an 8" screen (didn't want it to be too big or too small).

It came with Kobo and I added Nook to it.

The free Nook ebooks still require a CC, is that how it works if you have a Nook?

It really is easy to do yourself. Took me about 15 minutes, following the written instructions under the youtube video I posted earlier in the thread. The video shows you every step and is 26 minutes long if you need to see someone else doing it. All you need is a mini-SD card and a computer you can attach it to. Some computers have a slot and some you just use a USB card reader. When the SD card is in the Nook, it's an android; when it's not, it's a Nook.

I got my new nook color today and plugged in the sd card I bought with the android system already on it since I do not claim to know anything about how to root it. But it won't let me download any apps from the marketplace  It gives me an error message of df-bpa-09 or df-bpa-13. I think the problem is that it is not recognizing my nook as a supported device but I have no idea how to fix it. Can anyone help me? I wanted to play on it :worried:

Where did you buy it? I would contact the seller. They may have seen that error before.

How does the rooted Nook Color compare to the Nook Tablet? Is the performance on the Color good enough for streaming Netflix, watching movies from SD card, and doing some basic web browsing (DISing)? I had thought I was going to get the Tablet but I like the idea of rooting to Android and my understanding is that the ability to do so on the Tablet is restricted, so now I'm thinking the Color might be the way to go...
