Are you going to the parks before your cruise?

We'll be at Disney this coming Sat and Sunday before cruising on Mon. I'd prefer to do the parks after, but I can't make that work with my job. We've both had covid in 2020, husband got vax #3 about a month ago, I got #4 last week, and we wear KN95 masks. The risk is pretty low using precautions, lower than either of our jobs, where covid burned through both of our workplaces the first 2 weeks this year. We took PCR tests last weekend, just to make sure we'd made it through the outbreaks at our jobs. Hopefully it'll work out, and if not, we'll try again in the fall.

Generally we do go to a park before a DCL cruise, or at least we go to VB before to get ready for the ocean view!

We'll be boarding the Fantasy soon and we have a WDW resort booked leading up to the cruise with two days in a park. We are going to Epcot the first day and Animal Kingdom Park the second. We bought KN95 masks for the trip, we'll be wearing them at the airport, plane ride down and while at WDW.

While we are a little concerned about the extra exposures visiting the parks it's a risk we're willing to take. We'll just follow at the rules that best protect us from exposure.

We're doing 2 nts at Art of Animation with one day at one park (Epcot) before our cruise in late March. Cruise embarks that Monday, we're getting into town Saturday, park day on Sunday. 1) this worked better with our schedule (we want to travel back home on the Saturday after so we have Sunday as a buffer day, and wouldn't have had that if we did the parks then), 2) we thought the flow was better this way (starting with the most hectic thing, then ramping down), 3) this trip is for my 40th and I really wanted to visit Epcot.

Yeah, it gives some added risk of infection before the cruise, though as others have said you can mitigate that risk somewhat. I plan on masking everywhere, trying to sit away from others at restaurants, etc. And I've got my KN95 masks for extra protection, plus I'm vaxxed and boosted.

I've seen people who have been careful to the point of obsession get sick, while others who flaunt every rule stay healthy as can be. I was quarantined for a week w/ my COVID positive and symptomatic (tho very minor symptoms thankfully) and was as exposed as one can be 24/7, and never caught it myself. I'm personally to the point of "do the most I can to be safe while still living and enjoying life" so decided the time at Epcot was a worth the potential risk. But that's a decision everyone has to make for themselves for sure.

We are doing five days at the parks in two weeks before our cruise. I got a rental car for us for the week for the flexibility and not being locked into using the Disney Transportation as much as possible. Going to the parks before the cruise doesn't give me any additional anxiety about testing at the port, but then again I am already anxious about that part. I won't truly lose that anxiety until we step on the ship in three weeks. I got some of the home tests and we plan on taking one the weekend before we leave and then again the night before the cruise that way we can know.

I'm with dreynolds1982......I'm taking sensible precautions but I am not going overboard and letting COVID run my life. If I did I wouldn't have taken my daughter to WDW last spring and her and boyfriend to DL back in November. They are about to graduate from high school...I don't have much time left with my daughter before she goes out into the world so I am taking every chance I can get.

Just got off the Dream this morning. It was freezing last weekend at Disney, so we only had our masks off to eat, even outside. We rolled in to port at 11:22 am (PAT of 11-11:15), breezed through luggage drop off and testing, got our clear to sail 30 mins after stabbing. We were going through security about an hour after port arrival and were at the bar by 1.

We're hitting Starcruiser right before our 7-day Eastern Caribbean Fantasy cruise. Taking a two day break in Cocoa Beach in-between.

I know “stabbing” is almost certainly a typo for “swabbing” but I couldn’t help but laugh reading it. The stress of whether you will get the all clear is kind of like a stabbing of the heart!

I would ask how risk tolerant you are and what the current conditions are at the time of your cruise. My anecdotal experience was that, during the pandemic, I went to Disneyland three times and Disney World once without getting COVID. Then I went to Disney World over this past Christmas when Omicron was picking up steam and caught it either in the parks or while traveling in Florida. Symptoms literally hit the evening I returned home from the trip. It is very crowded and easy to pick up there if cases are high. We followed reasonable precautions, including vaccinations, and it wasn't enough. Right now, I personally wouldn't go to the parks just before my cruise (unless I was recently recovered and less likely to get infected), just because I value cruising more than I do the parks and wouldn't want to take a chance of not cruising, or coming down with COVID mid-cruise. But, if cases are minimal at the time of travel, I would be more open to it.

We have always limited out park experience to one day before a cruise, but could easily do several and then jump on a cruise. It wouldn't be too much for us, and we aren't exactly a high-energy family. It makes for a very fun vacation to combine the two experiences.

I would love to hear what your experience is there. We are Star Wars fans, but it doesn't look very appealing to us (kids are college age - don't love role playing either). But, I have noticed I agree with many of your opinions regarding the cruising experience, so I would love to hear how it compares.

In August I'm spending the night before at Music (and will likely have dinner somewhere at Disney Springs) - mainly because it seems those busses to the port are leaving first now.

I'll have 3 nights/4 days at the Poly after the cruise. (It was going to be a much longer park time and no cruise, but then I moved the MDAS I was to have been on in 2 weeks to a Wish cruise in August so I didn't get stuck in Miami. And them promptly tested positive here in NYC. So I shortened the WDW portion.)

Thanks. And I, yours. 🙂

I am a huge SW fan; I am the kind of guy who walks around Galaxy's Edge translating all of the Aurebesh for my family without using the "datapad". 🤓

Although role-play is not really my bag, either, I am nonetheless really looking forward to this experience. My gut tells me (or maybe it's just wishful thinking) that Disney knows they have to appeal to the adult fans (and even adults in general), because very few people are going to shell out this kind of money solely to indulge their kids. Even at only 100 rooms, I'd argue it might be hard to fill it long-term unless you are appealing to the adults as much as the kids.

I'll be sure to shoot you a PM. 👍

Would love if you post a Mini-trip report (just impressions etc) in the starcruiser thread in the resorts forum. We’re struggling mentally with justifying the price so I’ll be closely watching all the reports on these boarsa once it is up and running

I will, but it'll be a few months. We don't hit Starcruiser until late May, so you should already have a lot of trip reports circulating before I have a chance to write mine.

Sure, but as a disney cruiser interested in your thoughts as it is a bit of a “cruise on land” experience

We are doing 4 days in the parks (one park per day) and then a 3-night cruise in April. I was NOT nervous when I booked it (pre- Omicron) because we are vaxxed to the max. When the news came out that Omicron was more contagious I started to rethink our plans and almost postponed the cruise part. Then we all caught Covid in January. We are all recovered and testing negative at home. While it wasn't fun to have breakthrough Covid, I am hoping it will provide us with even more protection.

We are looking forward to both parts of the trip, but I am glad we will have the hustle of the parks followed by the relaxation of the cruise. Our trip to WDW in November 2020 was a great one, despite 100% masking and no entertainment. It was worth the risk to our family. We feel the same way about this trip.

I know right. I read it earlier and thought i must be really tired because it says stabbing. Then this morning
i looking and it does say stabbing. lol ...what a trooper to keep going after a stabbing. Just kidding
@MoonFaerie Thanks for reporting back! Makes me want to go!

I have a 3 week vacation starting in 3 weeks. 7 days at Disney, 4-night Bahamian cruise, Universal and 7 more days at Disney. I'm really nervous about the testing before the cruise. We plan to mask all the time, got a rental car, will avoid crowded areas and buy all the extras to spend as little time as possible in lines. I feel cruising first would be much safer, but since I plan to celebrate my birthday during the cruise, we'll risk it. If I could change the order of our trip, I definitely would, but I'm hoping to celebrate my birthday on the cruise. Once I return from this trip, I'll surely report back.
