Are you getting the price when you rent/sell your points?

When you list your points for rent/sell are you getting the $ 10.00 per point which most people think is the going rate or are people offering $ 7.00 - $ 8.00 per points. I have tried to sell my points a few times and people are not willing to pay the $ 10.00.

What's with that?

I've always gotten $10 per point.

I paid $10 when I rented points for last Oct trip.

Never had a problem getting $10+. One time I did go down to $9.50, but it was a big chunk of points and I was glad to rent them to one person. Had I held out I could have gotten $10.

You'll always get inquiries from people looking for cheaper points. I'm always very nice and tell them 'Thanks for the inquiry, but no' (even if that isn't really what I'm thinking in my head ;)). Then I rent them to someone else for what I want.

I am sure if your points weren't about to expire you'd have a better chance of getting $10 or more for your points. When your points need to be used before Feb 1, 2006, that does not give the renter much time. Some sellers with similar situations do sell their points for $7 or $8.

I happily paid $10 to 2 different members to round out the points I needed in September. I wouldn't rent for less than $10 b/c it is already a steal in my opinion considering what you get and the fact there is no tax.

I've been able to rent my BWV points for $10 - $11 to some very nice renters. The key is the timing. I offer my points for rent well in advance of expirations or banking deadlines so I have the most control over the points. That way if I am unable to rent them out I can still bank them. This also allows the renters to plan their trips in advance.

Occassionally I get renters asking for the points less than $10 but I politely tell them no thank you.

I have to admit though that recently I was asked by another DVC member ( that is what they said anyway) if I would rent for $7.00 :earseek: that one bothered me....a newbie renter I can understand asking that but another DVC member :confused3

It doesn't hurt for the renter to ask you for $7-$8 a point. Just politely say no and see if they will offer more or just wait for the next offer. Post points well in advance so you are not "under the gun" to rent them. I would rather give my points to family then rent them for less then $10/pp. Who am I kidding I am in a constant state of borrowing. I am sending my brother and his girlfriend to BWV for 5 days in May in a studio (Christmas gift). I am also paying the airfare, 3 day park tickets each, and $500 spending money. I can't be all bad I guess :confused3 ( contrary to the opinion of some on these boards:))))) :rotfl: ) Keep trying you'll be able to rent those points.

p.s. What Resort are your points at? That could have something to do with the low offers.

Because I was curious I looked at your post regarding the points for rent. In the future, it might help if you don't give so much information regarding when the points need to be used by or that they are in "holding" status. There are a lot of people that are non-owners that have familiarized themselves with the ins and outs of DVC and look for situations like this to take advantage of lower point costs...ie: "bottom feeders".

LOL

I too have rented points two times. Once for $10 and another for $11. I also received a few requests for $8 or less. And I believe a couple I responded to nicely and after that I just ignored them. All the other posters have given you all the same advice I would as well - Just offer your points up and be clear about your rate. And be aware of your banking deadlines.

Good luck!

Dave is a much nicer guy than I. I wouldn't waste my time (or their's) by answering an inquiry for $7-8. They're not trying to get a vacation bargain; they're trying to steal your points.

Stick with your price and you'll only attract a bunch of wonderful renters trying to have a great vacation at a reasonable price. No need to rent to bottom-feeders.

Stop and think about it for a second...assuming they are not brokers trying to arbitrage YOUR points, do they seem like the kind of people you'd want to have as neighbors on a vacation??? Naw.

It is an open market. Sellers ask and buyers offer -- when the two overlap you might have a deal. It does not hurt to be cordial and politely decline an offer that is below what you are willing to accept. It is all part of the open market system.

As to value -- there are parameters that might frame the range of prices. On the low end is the person only interested in covering the out of pocket costs (dues) for those points. At the high end is Disney's rack price (including tax) for the same reservation. Most likely you will be well within those extremes.

It appears that points go for well above the low end price. Although we have no way of really knowing. But the general sense is that you can get quite a bit more and I suspect the number of people willing to offer at the low end is a very small portion of the inventory.

Unlikely that you can get rack rate plus tax because price discounts of some sort are common, Disney has better payment terms, there is less risk renting from Disney and Disney has more inventory to offer.
