Either a holiday or year end bonus?

Did you used to get and now don't?
Ever get one?

Dh has always gotten a yearly bonus in December since he's worked for his current employer. It's part of his salary, and if they were to take that away and blame the economy, he'd be looking for another job! It's a pretty significant bonus.

I actually just started working where DH does, but in a different department. I am not management, so I get smaller, quarterly bonuses. This will be my first full quarter working, and I've already been told I'll see the full bonus. Because of the holidays, and closing the books for year end, the 4th quarter bonuses come out much earlier, so we'll see those around the 15th. I'm trying to hold off on too much Christmas shopping until then!

Mine come in May, and they vary widely based on the success of the business.

No end-of-year bonus when you work for the Federal government. I used to get a $400 "holiday" bonus when I worked for a government contractor.

As a governement worker, I can get a cash bonus during various times of year if I do something phenomenal.

Yes, but since this is my first year on the job, I don't know when or how much. I also don't think I will be eligible for the entire bonus, since I wasn't there the entire year. Our fiscal year ended in September.

DH works for Publix and in the month of Dec he ends up with 2 bonus checks..one for year end(all employees) and one quarterly one that comes after inventory is done. Sadly they all hit at the same time, with his regular check, so we get hit hard in taxes..

I have never gotten a year end bonus in any job I have ever worked at

Since I'm a SAHM no but according to a pretty valid rumor going around DH's office this year yes! Rumor has it they've maxed out on how big it will be. :cool1:

Dh and I have been working for 25 years and neither of us has ever had a job where bonuses are part of the picture.

My former employer was pretty generous with holiday bonuses. I am a student now so none for me. DH gets "Holiday Pay", which is not a bonus, rather they don't pay him for the holidays during the year and he gets a nice check right before Thanksgiving. He is a police officer and works most Holidays.

I don't (SAHM) but my DH gets a healthy bonus every year. :)

In addition, we just got a very nice gift package from Harry and David's wishing us a Happy Thanksgiving from the company owners and we also get a ham at Christmas. :santa:

I did two years. The first when I was an executive asst and the second when I was a first year associate at a law firm. I worked for universities after that and there was no bonus. Now I am a SAHM.

DH gets a bonus at the end of certain phases of his projects. So usually one every year but not at any particular time of year. He also has a guaranteed bonus every April for the next 3 years as part of a salary negotiation when he tried to leave his current company and they didn't want him to go.

Yes we get a yearly "bonus" calculated on how business is going. Last year it was good but this year it is GREAT (not the best possible but still pretty awesome)

Do you think you are entitled to bonuses or something a company gives in recognition of good work? In other words, the company has a really good year a bonus is given or a company doesn't do so good and a bonus is not given. My company never gave a bonus. Someone I know works for one that does and goals are defined for the year and if exceeded bonuses are given.

I think bonuses can either be at the generosity of the employer or for specific performance goals. If you expect a bonus for taking up space and breathing air well, then no.

That's too bad. If they give you something only when they know you want to leave they are not paying what you are worth. There should have been raises. I accepted a promotion outside the department I worked in once and the department offered me an increase better than the pay increase associated with the promotion. I turned it down and in the future did better in that I got raises in recognition for my work.

State Gov employees, so no bonus. No raises for years either but that's another thread.

DH gets one on Tuesday!!! He currently gets 4 a year based on performace from the previous quarter. Next year he will actually get an extra bonus in December as part of his company's GM retention program- the amount is based on his evaluation scores for the year.

So, while they are not Holiday bonuses, they timing is great!
