i think i came close to (or at least a particular moderator was looking for a reason to) several months back.
i was on the cruise board and a future (first time cruiser) had posted a question regarding legal documents needed for a child to board and travel (she was in a nasty custody battle with the father who did'nt want the kid to leave the state let alone the country). one of the moderators posted a reply that
dcl never checks kid's docs and she did'nt need to take anything but the kid's bc. i posted that it was'nt up to the cruiseline but immigration at the port (and the ports of entry) and advised her to seek legal advise because she could face international kidnapping charges. the mod fired a post back that stated my information was totaly incorrect and she "being a long standing cruise board moderator and
travel agent" knew better what the cruiseline procedures were-that i should leave such post replies "to a professional" (um, sorry? i worked in dss for years and know a bit more about child custody law and travel requirements, plus i'de just been on a cruise and had seen some families turned away at the port by immigration-and one mom/kid pullled aside by immigration officials at one port for validation of her travel docs)-all in all a very "snarky" post. i sent a copy of it to the webmaster for the board who replied that the information as well as the posting had been inappropriate.
about a week later i posted to another thread wherein someone wanted info. on some item-i tried to post the name (only) of the company i knew carried the item but it kept coming up as a link (which my understanding of the boards is a no-no to post) so as a solution i posted it as "companynamedotcom" (actualy spelled it out that way)-BINGO! the "professional" sent me a pm saying i had "knowingly and with malicious intent took action to attempt to override the internal security mechanisms of the dis"..."any further actions we deem inappropriate will result in loss of posting privledges"
i pretty much left that board after that.
given the horrendously vile postings with personal attacks that noone (mod wise) seems to care about enough to close threads or take banning action on-i think the whole thing is pretty arbitrary.
