Are you doing the Florida Half Ironman at WDW in May?

Let's get a list going.

Where are you staying?

Are you turning your triathlon trip into a vacation?

:sunny:

Good luck to everyone and see you there! :sunny:

I'm in...just made ressies at the WL, just a woods view, nothing too fancy, 'cause I don't know who I'm travelling with yet.

Glad I was able to get a room...my coach said last night that the WL was filling up?? sounded like plenty of availability when I called today.

Sounds like it's going to be fun...after doing St. Croix, the WDW 1/2 will be easier? I hope...kindof scared of St. Croix and the Beast.

And of course, it will be a little vacation...just like we did for the marathon in January!

My DH wants to do St. Croix someday. Isn't that at the beginning of May?

Unfortunately, we won't be arriving until the day before so DH will not have a lot of time to get used to the heat.
:(

How long have you been doing triathlons?

Good luck.

Anyone else going to be there?
:sunny:

This is my sixth season of tri...having a blast. Mid-pack, at best...working on getting better for the longer distances.

I hope y'all don't have too much trouble with the heat...too bad you don't have more time to acclimate. I suppose, in May, the humidity will make it feel stickier. Though I went to WDW in May 2002 for a weekend, and it was nice, at least for park-hopping!

St. Croix is May 2. I didn't think my coach would let me do both races, but she is! The Race Director for the WDW half is the same as for IM Florida, so it'll be a good race, production wise. yay!

Let's stay in touch!

I wish DH had more vacation time so he could arrive earlier. We are taking 3 weeks in Oct./Nov. for the Ironman Florida. We are going to Vero Beach for 2 weeks so he can get used to the heat and then over to Panama City Beach for a week before the race.

He said he is not taking himself too seriously for the 1/2 Ironman at WDW. It will be his first race of the season and it will be a lot warmer than it is up here. :( He hasn't been doing tri's for that long and just wants to try and improve a little with each race.

He just couldn't resist signing up for the tri with it being at WDW and at the WL-which we love. We own at VWL and stayed there last October for the Great Floridian. He missed that due to a power outage the night before the race.

Good luck. Do you have an actual triathlon coach?

guess we're the only trigeeks out there! ;)

Your DH missed the whole race (Great Floridian) because of the alarm not going off? yikes!
Well, at least for this 1/2, there'll be hundreds of athletes...we'll all be getting up early, just like the runners on Marathon morning.

Yep, I have a coach...hired her to get ready for IM-Wisconsin a couple of years ago, and have stuck with her. It's been great--I've learned a lot and made great improvements compared to where I was (though I'm still really a back of the pack/mid-pack athlete).

Hope some more athletes chime in!!

DH did an online training program last year. Mark Allen or something like that.

Yes, he missed the whole race. He did the 1/2 the year before and was going to do the whole in 2003. We stayed at the Villas because we used our DVC points. The power went out, the alarms didn't work and there was a huge malfunction of something in our room that created this really loud noise for a few hours. DH was not happy!!!

He did get to have a moment of happiness. When he went to get his bike in Clermont people kept congratulating him and asking him how he finished so quickly. So, 5 or 6 people thought he did the tri really quickly.

I'm looking forward to seeing him in the swim and on the bike and run courses. It's going to be real nice to be able to go back to WL if the kids and I need to rest. We usually have to sit in the hot sun for hours and we all get cranky.

I'm hoping for mild weather. It was SO hot at the Gulf Coast triathlon. DH ended up in the medical tent and we couldn't find him. It was pretty bad.

May I ask what kind of bike you have? DH has been looking for a new one. He wants to upgrade from what he has now that he has been doing triathlons for a while.
