Are you doing better than four years ago?

My husband says yes and I am not so sure.

He doesn't know the day to day sacrifices I make to be a SAHM. I am a careful shopper and I pinch pennies where ever I can.

I think we're doing about the same.

DH's company didn't give bonuses last year and limited pay raises to 2% - mostly due to a very weak dollar which hurt their international divisions. Our long term investments did take a big hit and are just now getting back to previous levels. I know that they most likely will do ok over the next 20 or so next years though so I'm not too worried.

The tax cut helped us some, but I don't think it stimulated the economy the way it was supposed to and now future Federal deficits look horrendous.

Gas prices and grocery prices seem to be increasing heavily here which makes me worry about inflation.

Yes and no. I am very blessed to have healthy children in a wonderful school system, that is passing it's school levy's. My DH and I are working the same jobs we did 4 years ago. He has been promoted and is much happier with his position. Unfortunately, the promotions did not come with big raises, in fact his pay has been frozen for the last couple of years. But he is in no danger of losing his job.

We are paying more for health care, gas and food. Our education costs have gone up due to the school passing a pay to play system (also as the kids get older they cost more). Our 401K has taken a beating but is rebounding.

I am not blaming the administration for our financial situation. I am not sure who I will vote for in Nov.
