Are you breastfeeding a toddler?

My bf IRL is current nursing her twins who turned one last week. They show no signs of stopping. MY friend has been nursing a baby or two since her daughter was born in October of 2001.

DD nursed for 22 mos, and DS for 19mos. We are thiniking about a 3rd and I will nurse for right around 2 years.

Wow, this is so cool! For some reason I thought MDC and Disney were kinda so far apart on the spectrum that I would never find other people who combine both into their lives like we do.

I am a fairly crunchy AP momma who is currently nursing my two youngest. My eldest self-weaned on this 4th birthday. My middle guy may have to wean a bit sooner than I would like cos I am having supply issues suddenly and the baby is hungry all the time right now. DS #2 will be so sad - he is quite attached to his milkies - I am hoping my supply is just going through some sort of adjustment but it's been a week now. :sad2:

Have you tried any of the tips on www.kellymom.com ? Don't give up yet! There are a lot of things you can try to increase your supply to a decent level. Worth a shot if you are not yet ready for him to wean. Good luck! :cheer2:

Anyone here ever nursed adopted children, or twins? I always admire that. Talk about deidcation. Giving up some foods, med, or drinks is nothing compared to that in my book.

I nursed my twins well into toddlerhood. I don't recall giving up much in the way of food or drinks and I didn't need any medicines that were a problem for breastfeeding. They weaned shortly before our WDW trip last fall, so I didn't get to "nurse around the world" ;)

Hats off to all of you mom's that were/are able to make nursing work. I didn't last nearly as long as you folks with either DS :sad2:

When my youngest DS was 20 months old, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent a resection shortly after. He went back on a bottle and formula as he lost all ability to sit, eat, talk, crawl, walk, etc. It was like having a 30 lb infant (he has always been very tall/big for his age)! In a way I can sort of relate to the prejudice of nursing older kids as everytime we went somewhere and I gave him a bottle, I would not only get looks but comments about how he was waaaay too old for a bottle! Yah, uh bite me, OK?? :lmao:

So, the moral of the story is do what you have to do and like other posters said, you ain't never gonna see those strangers again so who cares!!! My "babies" are 13 and 10 now.........where does the tme go??? :hourglass

We are at the end now too. My goal was to do it like last time, just nurse until I ran out of milk because she was nursing so infrequently. Now she nursing in the am, skips a day here and there. She wants more milk, but just isn't getting much. Her big sister made it about 4 months longer then this. (of course this is a slow process.)

I guess I could try to boost my supply, but I think at this time it is the natural progression. I am torn between sad and excited (I can eat what I want again.) Still it is the end of something important to me and I can't help greivng that. Also I love being able to nurse a child when they aren't feeling well.

pjupton, :thumbsup2 to you!!!!!!!!!!!

How is your son doing now? :grouphug:

I extended nursed DS, until 24 mo+. I am also on MDC, though I only lurk. I use a different screen name (my mommy one LOL)

I hadn't gone there until today - thanks for the reminder. I am going to give some of the ideas a try because I don't think DS #2 is ready to wean at all. I was trying to ignore it and hope it went away, I guess. :rolleyes1

I know.. I am so glad I asked if anyone here was on MDC! I had been wondering about that for a while, but just assumed there probably weren't any..
boy was I surprised! :rotfl:

I fed DD (now 22) until she was just turned 2, DS (now almost 19) until he was 3 months and DD (7) until she was 12 months :thumbsup2

A fine mixture, if ever there was one.................... ;)

I was plagued by mastitis, through all my nursing years, so guess that's why I nursed the second two for a shorter length of time :)
Had gallons of milk though so, although there wasn't a nourishment problem, that probably didn't help with the mastitis........

I nursed my twins :) 29 weekers. one nursedtill about a month after he was 4 too.... :cool1:

My nursing days are long over, but this was such a nice thread to read through and see there are so many extended nursing moms! I didn't bf my oldest DS at all, and I have to say, it's one of my biggest regrets in life. My second DS, he nursed only until about a week past his first birthday. Looking back now, I think it was just a nursing strike and not a true natural weaning, but I didn't realize that at the time. My DD nursed until she was almost 17 months and then she naturally weaned. I tried very hard to get her to continue nursing, I really wanted to go at least until she was 2, but from about 13 months on she was gradually decreasing her nursings until she was just done and would cry and try to get away from me if I offered. As it happened over several months, I knew she really was done. LOL, I wasn't really ready to be done, I kept attending LLL meetings for a good year after she weaned, I had lots of friends there and I enjoyed helping new moms!

To keep this Disney related, one of my absolute favorite Disney memories, the kind that brings tears to my eyes if I think about it long enough, is being on the TTA with my DS, then 3 and my DD, then 7 months. She was in the sling nursing and my DS was asleep with his head in my lap. We were on our third time around and even I was almost dozing, you know that wonderful relaxed and contented feeling you get from nursing, and my eyes would close and then they would open and I'd look around and see all the wonderful MK scenery, then my eyes would close again....then open.....I remember thinking that life didn't get much more perfect than that.....ahhhh what a wonderful memory, now I'm all teary-eyed!

WTG current and former nursing mommies!

Hi, I haven't had a chance to read any other replies yet, so I'm not sure what course this thread has taken. But, I'm nursing a toddler. Well, at this point she's a pre-schooler (turned 3 in April). I'm trying to wean, but I'm not ready to go "cold turkey" on her just yet.

I nursed DD all over WDW when she was 13 months. I don't nurse in public any more (DD doesn't nurse during the day). You're doing great -- a 19 month old is still a baby. :thumbsup2

I'm still nursing DD 15months. Although I wish she'd cut back her 4aday nursings to 2aday. (drop the middle of the night and middle of the day ones). Any tips? Other than that I don't mind waiting for self-weaning...just I need sleep!

Also, have you ever been away from a DC for 24 hours while nursing? DH and I were invited to a wedding 4 hours away and we'd like to go, but babies don't mix well with fancy weddings.

Actually, DH and I left DD at 16 months to go to WDW for a week. DD had no problems at all nursing when we got back. All kids are different, but I was very surprised and totally prepared to wean at that point. Here we are almost two years later... :teeth:

My wife nursed our first DD until she was 3 1/2, when she got pregnant with our second DD who is now 2 and still nursing at nap time, bed time, and for comfort when she is sick or hurts herself.

Keep up the good work Moms! :thumbsup2 It is nice to see other moms that care about their children as much as my wife and I do! :cool1:

You guys are awesome!!DD has been weaned for a while now, not my choice..hers. :sad2: But how awesome to see all these nursing mamas! Good for you all!
