IRL, I'm a very quiet, private, keep-to-myself kind of person--a definite introvert. Oddly enough though, I love public speaking... :confused3

Which are you--an introvert or extrovert?

I'm a MAJOR introvert. I can't even get up the nerve to call a guy. A guy who wants me to call him to begin with.

Have you ever taken the Myers-Briggs? I'm an ISFP, I think - the artist one.

I am truly an introvert, though most people don't believe me because I have learned over time to be more outgoing and social.

I like to spend much of my free time alone - on the computer, reading, shopping alone, etc. - and actually NEED to have a lot of alone time or I get really stressed. Socializing in large groups, especially if I do not know everyone well, is hard for me, but I have learned to hide my anxiety and most people wouldn't realize it doesn't come naturally to me.

Big-time extrovert, but unlike OP, I hate public speaking!

I am an introvert in person, but can be an extrovert on the computer when I want to be.

I'm rather introvert, but on the computer I'm extravert, and once I know people very well and feel comfortable around them, I get more extravert in person too.

But going inside the golf club house, and saying hi to the people who are there.... is like dieing. I'm way too shy for that!

I took a test once and it said I was right in the middle. I am friendly, but I don't like to socialize very often. I like to be alone or with my children.

Extreme, in your face, EXtrovert, ask anyone who knows me, especially my embarrassed kid...

I have a degree in Speech and Theatre so GUESS if I like public speaking... ???

Ahhh, thanks Aidensmom, now I don't have to type all this out myself. This is ME, too, every part!

Me too, except I haven't learned to hide my anxiety. If I must attend a large gathering, I usually migrate to the area with the least concentration of people and stake out my space.

I have an upcoming bridal shower to attend and I am so dreading it. I'd love to be able to just send a gift and be done with it, but I don't think that'll fly. Anybody have any spare xanax lying around that I can have?

I was born an introvert--shy and quiet. As I got older I've gotten more and more outgoing in small groups. I used to never talk to strangers, but that most certainly isn't the case now. In real life I'm very much like I am here on the DIS. I love people, love chatting with people, even briefly about most anything, learning about them, about where they live, etc. I still have times that I feel shy, though. Also, I hate public speaking. Terrifies me! I live in a household with lots of kids and pets, so I have constant stimulation and I don't mind some alone time. Actually, I like alone time. :teeth: School starts in two weeks! :cool1:

Oh, and a big exception to me being an extrovert is on the phone...I hate making phone calls. I'm a big phone introvert. It's really almost a phobia. I can answer the phone if someone calls, but I really hate making calls, even to family. Therefore, it's hard for me to make appointments, etc. I wish I could schedule everything via the internet.

I am as shy as the day is long :rolleyes1 Just kidding, extrovert :thumbsup2

Extrovert! I love being around people and constantly talk to strangers. My DH always teases me because I'll come out of the grocery store and know a complete stranger's entire life story. :rotfl:

This is why I'm having such a hard time getting up the nerve to call that guy! I had no problem marching up to him and introducing myself...no problem talking to him in person all these months...but I just wish he'd call me first so I don't have to do it! :p

Plus I have a slight hearing impairment that makes it difficult to understand what the other person is saying. I'd rather just avoid the whole issue.

I completely understand what you're saying

Why hasn't he called you? :teeth:

My DH totally does not understand the phone thing with me, even though I've explained it to him many times. When I have to make a call I do, but I do whatever I can to avoid it.

I think he's afraid to. He's made some allusions about "having to start my life all over again at age 35," etc. Plus I went away for a week, then he went away for a week...so the timing's been off. We're both home now, as of this morning. Anyway, I'm telling everyone so that they give me a push to make the first move!

I also had to constantly explain to my ex, "I can't understand what the person is saying. Please just call for me." But now I'm on my own and I have no choice! It's embarrassing when you completely misinterpret what's being said...I think that contributed to my phone-phobia, instead of just my being shy.

Okay...back to the topic at hand... :)

I'm introverted all the way. I was very shy as a kid, and it takes me a while to warm up to people. But once I get to know you, I'm extroverted :confused3

Extrovert!! :yay:

apirateslifeforme-just call him and get it over with. Otherwise, you'll never know what might have been. ;)

I am definitely an introvert. I like having alone time and I am shy when I am in a room with people I don't know. I absolutely hate speaking in public. I am mostly an extrovert around trusted friends though.

I share your pain with the phone thing. I hate making phone calls. I always stumble over what I am saying then I end up feeling like an idiot. I try to get DBF to make any calls I need but he just doesn't get it. I practice what I am going to say beforehand so I don't have that awkward moment of silence.
