Are You All Alone

My parents don't share our camping bug, but my dad does love tailgating at football games.

I really want to try tailgating next season. Maybe the U of M/ State game. It is expensive...I think $150 to park the motorhome there. But if we split it between a few couples it wouldn't be so bad. And we probably wouldn't go to the game...we'd just watch it on the plasma tv outside the MH.

If anyone wants to tailgate close to Nashville Universities, you can park at MY PLACE for $150.00. I'll throw in elec. and water too. :lmao:

My immediate family loves Disney...can't get enough. And gee, I guess we must love camping since, we are involved in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Venture Crew. Many years...gone camping 3 times a month because of all the scouting events.

Other family members thinks we are crazy for loving both!!! Oh well, they will never understand. However, we are making great memories with our teenagers!!! And my kids plan on sharing Disney and camping with their kids when that time comes down the road!

At Auburn and most SEC schools, you can dry camp on campus for free. We just park out in a field with the other nuts like us and tailgate and camp there. It is really quite fun, been doing that for years. I think that is what got us back into camping in the first place. There are places that you can pay to park that are closer to the stadium, but why? Also, they charge Disney Deluxe prices for their hotels and motels on the football weekends. I bring my hotel with me!:cool1:

We are a family of 4 and we camp with a family of 4. We camp together every Spring Break and Thanksgiving and a few smaller trips in between. The other family has our FW frenzy but not our Disboards frenzy so in that area, I'm alone. We also camp with my sister-in-law but they have absolutely no interest in going to WDW.

We're blessed to have our camping friends. We've been camping together for 9 years and have that comfort level and routine down. There is no stress between the two families. We can push for the long haul or take a short trip and it's all good. All our kids love camping and love the trips to WDW and the Fort.

Last weekend, we were camping together and a family from our community came by to visit and asked us about WDW. I think we wore them out and may have spooked them a little telling them all about FW. People just don't know until they've experienced it.

Both families have Mickey Light Posts, Mickey painted Satellite Dishes, Mickey lights, FW blankets, FW mugs, and spent our Spring Break camping trip making disney ornaments for our December trips.

We're getting ready for our Louisiana trip to Natchitoches for the "Cane River Celebration" on the 4th. Going to Rog's land.

We decided that if our family doesn't understand...too bad. We tried to get them interested. We'd rather go with our friends and be with our DIS friends who understand the FW passion.

My DH loves Disney, but barely tolerates the camping. Wouldn't even consider it before the camper. Now he "might" spend one night with me if I camp close by.

As a matter of fact, this October he's staying at All-Stars and I'm staying at the Fort with a bunch of other T@B campers. I know, we're weird.

My boys are at that age where they don't have the time or money to vacation with us. (20 & 21) Oldest has a car to support, and youngest is trying to get through college. They are both old hats at camping and do it very well, but like I was in my 20s, they've gotten away from it some.

Oh, Carol, you've *got* to post a picture of that on the camping board! I'd take one myself if I was over there looping!

DH loves camping, but isn't really into Disney.

I love Disney and used to be uninterested in camping.

Our compromise was to buy a used MH so that I could get my Disney fix. I had to agree that we would not camp exclusively at the Fort ;)

Our first trip in the MH is in 3 days! We're going to VA to visit family for a couple weeks and staying at campgrounds on the way up and back.

we are alone in our obsession as well. my brother lives and works in orlando (universal) so the magic has been lost for him :headache: and my parents visit him once or twice a yr....never got the magic

when we go down there.....ugh it's annoying because it's our vacation...our obsession...and well- he lost that lovin' feeling for the place :(

we go it alone and try not to let him ruin our good time :hyper:

I am the only one that is crazy about Disney. I don't own a bunch of Disney stuff, but I do like to vacation at the world. Since we have a 4 year old now, DH has warmed up to it again. But I just can't seem to get the rest of the family to go with us. We try every year. Even offer to pay for some of it.

We don't camp. Both my DH and I have spend 20 years in the army and have had enough of the "camping" to last us a life time. However, we love to stay at the cabins at FW. That is the closest we will get. I don't think we will stay anywhere else for a long time. It is a vacation in itself.

As to family, my wife and I are "alone" with camping. None of our families camp or even have camped. We camp way more than all of our friends, although we usually have a few "group" trips a year. We have seen more of New England than any of our friends, and are slowly expanding our camping trips. Our kids know more about local history than any of their friends. The last few years, most of our camping trips have been in or near historical sites (Plymouth, Fort Ticonderoga, this year it will be Gettysburg).

This is our first trip to FW this fall. If all goes well, it may very well become a yearly (at least!!) trip.

What I really don't understand is the people who "dread" a weekend with "The Family". Friends of mine have asked how I could spend an entire weekend, let alone a week, "cooped up" with my family. We have a ball, and so far our kids still love doing it. The mindset that I have is that a person has to Choose to have fun. I really don't like hanging around with bellyachers or curmudgeons!!

I do have Disney obsessed friends, but no one shares our Disney camping obsession.

Fortunately my DH shares my Disney/Fort Wilderness obsession -- as well as my parents, our three children, and our six grandchildren.

But no friends understand :rolleyes1 . Most everyone I know thinks we're crazy for "camping"!
