Are you a "lurker" on DISboards? If not, what caused you to de-lurk?

I'm probably a 9%er. I usually just read some threads to get my Disney Fix. If I feel I can add something or help someone, I will post. If a question has been answered by 10 people already, I won't add to it. I don't like to be part of the heated threads, so I try to stay away from those.

Also, I am a bit of a "Thread Killer"- if I add to a thread, it usually dies. Let's see what happens to this thread..!!!:scared:

I lurk more and more now. It seems after all these years as a member and the fact that there are so many boards now on Facebook that I joined I just find myself coming here less and only reading when I do...smjj

I was super active while planning my wedding and then actually left during the past few years. We were having kids and not going on any vacations. Now that we have purchased DVC and I'm planning our first trip, I have become more active. I have discovered, however, that so many things have changed!! I am reading MUCH more than posting right now.

My husband is a super lurker - he admits that he lurks on every board he is part of but can't explain why. :confused3

Lurked to learn and ask the occasional question not seen in any recent posted reply and with more experience and first hand knowledge, slowly moving towards the 9%.

A recent ban for no reason (and the DW joining herself as mrs.hardis being given the boot at the same time) almost had me give up on the boards as saw they being driven by the 1% and overzealous admins more than the 9% - almost as if against the 9% or those newbies asking innocent questions. This as well changed my perspective and view of other places that exist as well for Disney information. DISboards is a fountain of knowledgeable participants, and if on more/more frequently I may someday solidify my place in that 9% if able to answer questions as fast as the 1%.

my first trip to disney world was last yr. we stayed at riverside for 2 nights and went to mk halloween party. i've never been a big amusement park person, never was into Disney, never have been kidlike even as a kid. we had 2 extra days in orlando last yr after a cruise, so we decided to surprise our kids with a very quick trip to Disney. the me was impressive, the greeting at the resort when we stepped off the bus was first class, the resort was very beautiful. the bus to mk made me smile with how they honored little prince and princesses. but what blew me away was the first sight of the castle as the bus was driving up. in that moment i wasnt a mom, or a wife, or any of the other many hats i wear daily, i was a child. those short few hours i was at the mk that night, not to sound cheesy, were magical. i discovered disboards this year as we were toying with the idea of surprising the kids again with a little bit longer trip. ive lurked for a good 4 months, reading trip reports, learning about renting points, saving money, reading about resorts, busses, food, parks, maps, what shoes to wear, not to worry so much about my hair because if the humidity doesnt kill it the rain will...i finally thought i should sign up and make a profile. that was a few days ago, ive asked a few questions on here and slowly am taking myself out of full blown lurker status. someday i would love to give my own fabulous trip report, but im not sure im witty and entertaining enough to keep up with the greats. but who knows, maybe...thank you to all who have supplied so much great information! when i tell people we're going to disney i hear "must be nice! i cant afford that!" i used to be one of those people, but now i know with a lot of lurking i can learn and find a way to make it happen!

Im mostly a lurker but I do contribute and post often. I joined without lurking, I am a member of another Disney forum which is not as active so I wanted to join a more active Disney community as I am a regular visitor to Disneyland California. I saw this forum mentioned on the other forum , so I did a Google search and just joined straight away.

Mike you always have great start posts, this one relates to not just here but life in general. In my experience there are ( no disrespect because I fall into this depending on the situation) lots of sheep, aka lurkers. Then the 1% are the vocal ones, not always the best, but they are the loudest. This is both good and bad. And the 9% are the ones that speak up when they feel like, are not intimidated by the 1%, but dont always have to shout over them. I fall into all the categories depending on what the topic is.
ps. I stopped lurking when I wanted to rent points but was too cheap to pay to rento_O, so had to start contributing. Now I do it because I like to contribute.

I was a lurker until we decided to go to Aulani and everyone told me to start posting. I did and got so much useful information.

I like to read and learn from other posters . I will reply if I feel I have something to contribute to the thread

I don't post much, I am kind of a thread killer...

You're welcome.

I mainly lurk for two reasons. I have received some very nasty remarks on other forums on the Dis from people who think they know all the answers when they do not and I often feel I do not have anything to contribute to a thread where the question has already been answered.

I lurk way more than I post, but if I have a question or a helpful share I will post. I like reading, and I learn more than I ever need to know to plan our Disney trips here on the DIS. I found these boards when we were planning our first family trip with little ones back in 2009, and came back right after our trip when we knew we wanted to buy into DVC (researched here for months and then pulled the trigger through resale the next year)

I feel like scanning these boards for a few minutes over my morning coffee is a great way to work toward my PHD in Disney planning. I am one of those ppl who knows WAY too much about Disney (well, not compared to the 1% on here, but generally speaking), I love learning more and always having the inside scoop before our trips. DH loves it too and is always asking me to help his staff plan their Disney trips ;)

For example, I was lurking earlier this Summer when I had holding pts I had to make use of during our Aug trip. I lucked across some information that several rooms at the BCV had suddenly opened up for availability less than two months out...I immediately went online and snagged a 2BR (with HOLDING PTS!) and we leave this Saturday! THANKS DISFRIENDS :)

That's sad! I post things where people more knowledgeable on the topic regularly correct me. I appreciate feedback, as I certainly don't know it all. I see myself as someone who gathers, distills and organizes the knowledge of others into an informational post.

Once I post, I usually just sit back and read all the replies.

I was a lurker when we first joined DVC and DH found the DISboards. After a little while when my knowledge and confidence became higher, I started posting. But later I realized a lot of answers are just your own opinion. Sure others might not agree with what I post, but that is okay. I often learn things because of other's posts. However, I found myself starting to lurk again as sometimes it feels like the same questions are asked over and over again. But then I remember I was one of those that couldn't find what was the difference between a lock off and a dedicated 2BR or what all these abbreviations mean. It is a pretty overwhelming amount of information.

I've been a lurker for a few months while we were deciding to buy in to DVC, when we decided to buy I joined and have been posting when I have a question or have something to contribute.

I average about 150-200 posts a year, it would be more but those 1% always answer before I do. But I learned a lot from those guys.

I was a lurker for about a year when I was learning about the DVC. At that point I was really not very knowledgeable and I used the DIS to help me learn about the resale process. Then we bought DVC through resale and started planning our first trip. I began to actively post at this time to ask questions that I could not find the answers to easily anywhere else. Then once we returned from our trip I was able to add to the threads on several Disney topics since I was now a little knowledgeable and had recently visited. I enjoy reading and learning from others and that is what keeps me coming back to the DISboards.

I read all the time. Don't post as much until I am closer to a trip. This board is a wealth of info and I thank each of you for your opinions, thoughts and advise.

I was a lurker for awhile, can't remember how long...I started posting when we were thinking about becoming DVC members I believe. I posted a lot more and asked many questions when we added on resale. I got a lot of information and great feedback during that time and am still appreciative of that. I haven't posted as much since then, but still read and post occasionally.
