I'm sure we all know of people who regularly win contests -- I'm not one of them. I don't think that anyone in my family (just counting me, DH and our kids) has ever won anything valued at more than $50 (oops, sorry, forgot DH won $300 at a nickel slot on a cruise, but that's it). I've won a few little things in our library reading program -- a coupon for a donut, a 1-day-pass to a health club, things like that. Are you lucky? Do you win trips, computers, gift cards, maybe even a car? Do you think there's a secret to it? Any tips?

not in love, actually very unlucky in that department. Yes, I have won stuff before and enjoyed the prize!

Never won a contest in my life, but consider myself to be the luckies man alive. No tips - just enjoy what you have - or, more specifically, who you have while you have them...

i win small prizes all the time. rarely ever something valuing more than i'd say $100.00

I don't enter many contests at all. I won a trip once and some money another time. I have also won concert tickets.

A friend of mine enters contests all of the time. She has won two vehicles, a motor cycle, a boat, a big screen TV, trips, and lots of money. I think it is a combination of entering lots of contests and luck.

No! I used to play Bunco every other week- it was $5 a week and it is a total game of luck. I never EVER won! I do, however, almost always win board games, like Trivial Pursuit. So, I am smart but not lucky!;)

I am not particularly lucky in lotteries, contests, etc. But I do consider myself fairly lucky in life in general with the important things.

I couldn't win a drawing if I bought the only ticket! DH is lucky, I am not.

I'm not lucky at contests and drawings. However, ever since I've been a little girl, I have ROCKED at a cake walk. :lmao: I could walk away with a whole bakery full of cakes. When dd was in grade school, I tried again to see if my cake walk luck still held and, yep, it did! I only played twice (and won both times) so small children would have a chance.

Ah, if only the lottery was a cake walk.

Now that you've made me think about it I guess I am.

On a road trip a few years back I put three quarters in a slot machine and won $1275. Not a bad way to kill time waiting for a food order to go.

I was at a state parks and rec auction several ago and bought 23 one years old Polaris snowmobiles for $175 each  They were worth about $2000 each. No one could hear what the guy was saying and I was the only person to bid.

Several more great auction stories I'll save for a later time.

I have a friend that wins all kinds of stuff. Even a trip to Hawaii!

I once won a $25 gift card as a door prize!!! That's the best I've got.

OTOH, twice I've had much-needed new jobs literally drop in my lap when I needed them. I've had other lucky things like that happen, so many I can't even remember them all. I'll take that kind of luck anyday!:thumbsup2

That's my father! I swear, he wins every draw and door prize at every event he goes to. Some of the things he's won:

$10,000
2 Caribbean cruises
A barbeque
A free night in a nice hotel, including breakfast and taxes

However, he's never won the lottery; I don't doubt that he will someday, though! :thumbsup2

Oh, and here in Canada we don't have to pay tax on our winnings. What amount/percentage do you folks have to pay?

Well, considering you have to pay taxes on the $ amont of whatever you win Id say I was damn lucky that I have never won enough of anything to have to pay for the "luck" of being a winner:lmao:

In life, Id say I was lucky. I have 4 children born healthy and perfect :lovestruc Have a wonderful husband, beautiful home and surrounded by family and friends!

Maybe it is true and we make our own luck!:thumbsup2

I win things fairly often but I don't really believe in "luck" per say.

I win a lot of things on the radio. A couple of years ago I won a trip to Los Angeles to see The American Top 40 hosted by Ryan Secrest. In 2009 I went on a motorcycle ride and won a Harley Davidson Sporster bike. I've won lots of concert tickets, sports event tickets, jewelry etc.

I certainly didn't mind paying the $700 taxes on the bike, seeing as I was able to sell it for $6000 :)

I think the only tip I can give is to enter. You have to play to win :-)

Funny thing...luck. The definition changes with each passing year. When I was a kid I used to win every drawing or contest (non-athletic) I was involved with. I once won a bicycle at a drawing of entry tickets at an Air Force Base open house that was attended by 10,000 kids. I won camera's, bike accessories and more in drawings at school.

As I got older, that kind of luck diminished but a different, more important kind came in. My health, my kids, my grandkids all are healthy and happy and with that I consider myself a lucky man.

Oh, I still go to a Casino once a year just for the heck of it and even though I don't win big, I always leave with the same amount of cash that I had when I went there. I consider that winning. It boils down to free entertainment for a few days.

Now, if I don't see my name in the obits. when I look at the morning paper, I consider it a lucky day.

So in answer to the question...Yes, I consider myself lucky!:wizard:

im not one of them. i lost one of the biggest elementry school competitions...to one of the snobbiest girls there are. T_T where's the love?
