Are we the only DVC members to...

I don't do it to save or extend points, I do it for last minute trips where I can't book DVC or I'm out of points and can't borrow!

It's a great deal, have fun!

Nopers, I would not do it. Have already spent enough money on points and dues. I'm not going to spend money for a cash reservation.

Nowadays I'd only do it if we ran out of points or if they ran out of room with points... :lmao:
Just can't justify using cash since we already pay $ for points and I need washer/dryer now.

Although with that price I would be sorely tempted. That is awesome! :thumbsup2
Great job!

Yup I would and do. Although I love my DVC, I cannot afford as many points as I would like. If I had more maybe I wouldn't.

I am staying on points in Aug 2010. Nov 2010, Dec 2010 and Mem Day 2011. Then next Aug, I am prob booking free dining at the FQ. I will try to rent someone elses points when I get closer, but if it doesnt work out. I will be MORE than happy with 2,100$ for 10 days, includ dining, and room.

And for the record, if I could only choose free interent or free mouse keeping. I LOVEEEEEEEEEE mickey soap and free coffee every day. Not saying I would trade, my DVC as I love my 1 bedroom. And for a simialar price of what a room only studio would run at SSR (even with any discount) verses free dining at FQ.. easy choice.

You are not alone!! :)

I happened to see that same deal at POFQ and jumped on it too. I added a couple extra nights and extended our Labor Day weekend. We will transfer over to the BWV after a few nights at POFQ. I am really looking forward to our holiday weekend. I am sure you will ahve a great time too!!

To the OP.what were your dates for that deal?Sounds like a great price. We stay in values or moderates when we need a disney fix and are short on points.

Horrors! I'm so spoiled by DVC that I won't stay anywhere else. Not even when we are out of points. But that is because DH says no points no trip. Meanie. Have fun.

We feel the same - after spending $40,000 on our 360 points, we are done! Paid cash for Downtown Disney hotel last month for our 1st night (DH's idea), and never again!

We work with what we have, although the OP did get a great deal!

go to Disney World without using points and stay in a moderate hotel? Travelocity had a great deal at POFQ for 7 nights it was $590 with tax!! We banked all our points for 2010 and are planning a big trip in 2011....

There's another way to look at this. $590 is a great price for 7 nights at a moderate resort however you may also want to consider the cost of your maintenance fees and property taxes in addition to that price.

I've often thought about doing something similar and rolling all of my points into the following year to book another cruise.

Our last trip in april we paid cash for a beach club 1 villa simply because it was cheaper to just cash room it than use points.
so we took the room on cash and just banked the points to use later.
It was a good deal, like 1200 or so for the 8 nights compared to spending i think it would have been 150+ points. Cant fully remember exactly what we paid but it was worth it

I sort of feel like were not utilizing our DVC membership and are wonderng if it won't be as magical staying moderate instead of a villa but I need my WDW fix! Any thoughts? :confused3

We book via CRO too, only we don't bank our points for the following year, we use those too. We only have 210pts, and 50 of those are at HH which we banked and borrowed for our summer trip, so really we only have 160 for a couple of years.
We mainly book extra nights on the beginning of our trips typically to extend our vacations.
This year we will have two trips thru CRO. The first my work is paying for since it's for CE, the second is a girls only trip for the Princess half marathon. I don't have enough points to put up 6 extra ladies, so I'm splitting a room with a friend probably at POR.

As long as it's not a value, I'm happy to be at WDW.

I just paid a good chunk of change to stay at OKW for the week of Christmas. I had ran out of vacation points for the year and wanted so badly to spend Christmas at Disney. So I paid for it out of pocket. :) No, your not crazy.

We didn't have enough points for our December trip this year so for under $1100.00 I have a room (even if it is at POP), tickets for 2 and a free but upgraded dining plan. Not a bad deal, I couldn't even get that price with my AP discount because I would still have to pay for one ticket and OOP dining which I estimate would have been an additional $600.00 which I can now happily spend shopping at WDW.

Staying non DVC every so often can be okay as long as everyone remembers it not a beloved DVC villa!! :)

Oh my goodness! I would have done exactly what you did...that's $84/night for a moderate and giving you the opportunity to do an even bigger trip next year?? :cool1: Absolutely...I'm with ya on that one! Enjoy your trip!
