Are We Terrorists?

That was a great laugh all around on all three versions of the poster. I think the TSA was supposed to have a guy "shooting at a plane", but there was a breakdown in communication.

Sort of longing for a "DIS FAIL" thread. Take pics of fails in the parks. Just one more challenge for the photogs.

If things go well for us soon, we'll be back in November. I'll be on the lookout for as many terrorists as I can. I'll get the whole place on lock down by the end of the day when I grab a Cast Member for each DSLR with a long lens that I see:lmao:

Don't get me started. One reason I moved out of NYC was all the post 9/11 BS we had to live with.

"Don't let the terrorists win, go about your lives as normal..."

Yeah, uh, we lost that fight. The biggest culprit in creating a paranoid nation, was the US government and law enforcement...

Five years ago I had a Total Hip Replacement and part of my therapy was to walk with a walker (53 yo). The mall was the easiest and coolest (OKC, OK in the summer :scared1:).

The first time out my wife takes my DSLR to "document" the recovery. She was chased down by a Mall Cop and threatened because of the security breach. Didn't she know that after 9/11 there was such a possible terror problem and photos were not allowed in the mall. He could confiscate the camera if he wanted!

It was absurd!

Does this mean that a crack team of photopass photogs will surround, aim at, and photograph the terrorist photogs? Will there be a shootout down main street as if it were frontierland? How much collateral damage from flashes and AF beams will the innocent bystanders face? Will we see the dreaded family of (strike that), CELL of 4 terrorists with the older male on continuous dSLR, mother with a P&S, son with a disposable in each hand, and baby girl with a tripod and camcorder. The poor photopass CM's will never be the same after having to shoot that baby girl.

I'd actually like to film this scenario... I wonder if Disney is up for doing a PSA with us on reckless stupidity in media, advertising, and government propaganda.

edit: on a side note, I wish the weapons were just cameras. It felt so much better of a thought thinking a war could be cloak and dagger operations to get a paparazzi photo of the other side doing something stupid.

Osama: Look, picture of George Bush puking on Japanese Prime Minister.
George: Look, it's Usama dancing the maca... the macaranerena.
Mahmoood: Columbia University... overexposed AND picture of nazi Germany, holocaust photoshopped out, smiles pasted on Jews.
Boris: Shut up Mahmood, we have your and Muammar dressing like women.
Hugo: It smells like brimstone in here, aqui presentamos un retrato de el diablo en el imagen de George W. Bush.
Fidel: Cigars and rum, 15MP, HDR. You still can't have any.

AAAAAActually - he had no right to confiscate any of your equipment, ask you to delete images, or, well, anything short of 1) asking you to leave the mall or 2) stop shooting. Well, or 3) as you to stop shooting AND leave the mall.

If he insists on calling the police, let him. 95% of the people you will come across don't understand the law. The only time you CAN'T shoot anything is if you're on private property when the 3 mentioned actions come into play (or if you use a zoom lens).

Basically it works like this: If it can be seen you can shoot it.

Publishing or selling the images is a different matter.

I'm pretty sure they can't confiscate your camera, but you can call the cops on them for grand theft and assault if they try. Just offer to bag your camera and stop shooting, or leave if they ask you to, but if they try to take it forcibly... 911.

Also, some of these cowards like to pick on an easy target. They probably saw you with the walker... Not all guards are bad, there is just an element of scum that you need to stand up to every now and then.

I had a meltdown on a guard once, I can't remember where, but I was out of NYC at the time. Whatever it was, it was just ridiculous. I knew it, he knew it, it was dumb. Like telling me I can't eat in the parking lot after ordering from the drive-thru:

Me: "So offended that you even dare mention 9/11 as a reason for your bullcrap. I am from NYC and was born and raised in lower Manhattan, how dare you use that tragedy as an example of why I can't (can't even remember the stupid thing in question). Just admit it is this some stupid policy you have?"

Guard: "yes. I'm sorry."

Sometimes it's not even about 9/11, just them being "authoritative" which is what they teach in security school. However that should be practiced with discretion as sometimes politeness works better, other times lying (ambiguity) is better but in a careful manner, and other times flat out assertiveness is called for. Here are some examples:

Wife with DSLR: "Excuse me ma'am, mall policy states... and I don't want to ask you to leave, so I would appreciate it if you put the camera away."

Suspicious package, etc: "Ladies and gentlemen, we have a maintenance issue in this area and need you to clear away from it temporarily. Please keep moving in that direction following the officer's instructions.

Confirmed bomb: "RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WITCHES THERE'S A BOMB IN THIS MOTHER."

Nikon owners aren't smart enough to spell Canon, let alone buy one.

I love this forum, it's a day brightener. Everyone has a good sense of humor.

As a Nikon shooter, I feel compelled to come to NateNLogansDad's defense.

Just as soon as I stop laughing. :lmao:

As more of these BS rules and laws are enforced it means the terrorists have won. They check our shoes, deny photographing public places, and take away individual rights. We become more like the countries we call enemys.

There was a recent post on this subject on A Photo Editor. Honestly, I think that both sides are making too much out of it. The laws I've seen are reasonable. Sometimes people who try to enforce them are not. Life's not perfect.

I'm not a legal expert, but I think that he can ask you to delete images. He just can't insist, force, or coerce you to do. If you don't want to delete them, all he can do is ask you to leave.

Malls were anti-photography zealots before 9/11. I'm not sure what motivates them, but just about every mall has been extremely anti-photography for a long time. My guess is that it is totally non-terrorism related.

Even outdoor malls sometimes get into the act. I've been warned that if I want to shoot at our local outdoor mall, I should do so commando style - get what I want and get out quickly. It looks like public property (streets, parking meters, etc), but the entire outdoor market is really private property.

Right. I meant that he was asking with some threat involved. You own the images and you do not have to delete them.
