Are We Snobs?

Are We Snobs?

1) Yes.
2) There is nothing wrong with staying off-site.
3) In fact, sometimes it is better than on-site.
4) Especially if you are at an upscale timeshare (eg. Orange Lake CC, etc)
5) In fact, some timeshares offer more than DVC timeshares.
6) Good off-site timeshares offer
. . . chances to eat at non-Disney restaurants
. . . activities not found at Disney resorts, especially for those non-Disney days
. . . evening activities you don't get at WDW

NOTE: I do agree that there are benefits to staying on-site, but there is more to do in Orlando than Disney. In fact, if you take a critical look at Disney activities, there is a limited list of things to do outside the park, especially at the resorts.

Okay, I am sorry, but this is very contradictory. You say the OP is a snob for wanting to stay onsite instead of at a friend's condo, then proceed to talk about timeshares being "upscale", "offering more", and list many amenities of choosing to stay offsite. Now, I have no problem with you preferring offsite stays, but because the OP prefers something different than her traveling companions or you, she's not a snob.

OP, do what you like. It is your vacation time. I would probably spend a night or two at the condo for bonding time if that is an option, though. :)

Nope - Not snobs!! I totally understand and would do the same thing. Just explain to them why you would rather stay onsite.

It's your vacation and you can do what you want with it. If you prefer to stay onsite and you can afford it, then you should do that. I would be thankful and appreciative but decline if you really feel that way.

With that said, I don't think I will ever stay onsite again. I hate not having the freedom of my own transportation, using those buses that take FOREVER to get anywhere, and being held hostage to Disney prices. With the money I save off-site, I could probably make at least 2 trips to your one and stay at an equal or better than the deluxe resorts with many more amenities than you will pay for one trip. However, it is your money and you are entitled to spend it anyway you wish. So, if you feel like spending the money and really want to be on-site, you should definitely do it. Have a great trip!

Friends of ours just asked us yesterday to come to Orlando with them in October. They have a condo time-share a few miles from WDW. We could stay there free for a week, just have to rent a car to get around, and to and from the airport. We think we are going to politely turn them down. We just really want to be on site when we go back, and be able to do the DDP, and just be in the middle of all the magic! If we did go with them, that would be our trip for the next several years. Are we being snobs? Does anyone else feel this way ?:confused3

We never stay off property no matter what the occasion be it free accomodations etc we prefer to be on property it is way easier no driving involved on property just use teh Disney transportation. Everything we could want is right there at Disney and with a 1 bedroom DVC villa we even have our own kitchen.

Yep, you are. :rotfl2: Just like most of the rest of us. We're snobs. Go ahead you lesser peoples, stay in those lower class hovels. Fight the traffic. Miss out on the Extra MAGIC hours. Hurry off to your condo's, hotels or whatever just to save a couple o' bucks (with gas at $4.00 per gallon). Just think, while your driving, I'm probably in my swimsuit at the pool, or already tucked away in my nice comfortable bed, or sitting in the adult area consuming a nice cold Dr. Pepper or something. And your there driving... Still driving...

Jeesh, give me a physical break.

This offsite deal doesn't sound like such a great deal to me. (And yes I have done it.)

But, yes we're Disney Snobs, and proud of it.

No, you are probably still sitting on the bus trying to get back to your hotel to pay $5 for that Dr.Pepper. Everybody has their own preferences and quite honestly, I am not going to pay more for anything than I have to no matter where it is. Also, there is no reason to put other people down because of the choices they make. "Lesser peoples", please! The only lesser peoples are the ones who put others down like you do. I have the money, but I will not over spend on something just to make myself look better to others. You sound shallow. We stay at places just as good as the deluxe resorts or better. As for the EMH, no thank you. The price of the resort just doesn't make it worth it. I can do everything in regular hours that I need/want to do. Maybe you need to organize your time better. When you come down off your "I'm better than others" cloud you will finally see how awful you sound.

AMEN!!!!!!!
Well said!!

Politely decline--no need to explain or apologize. Offer to take them out to dinner.

ELABORATING (possibly than you cared to know!)--I would not use the word "snob" in this instance. You would be snobbish if you thought their place was substandard, which is not the case. In our perosnal case, we live very rural and hence we drive miles to anything and everything. We want to stay on property because no matter how horrible the bus line or how crowded the bus, it is still better to us than our driving. That's not being elitist, just a matter of personal preference--the same with you. I WOULD offer to take them to dinner or something to spend some time with them as thanks for their generous offer.

you just know what you want. I can understand how you feel because you say it's your only trip for several years. However, it's free. I might consider going. You can't beat free. Why not do this. You obviously plan on going but staying on-site. Why not take the money you would save for accommodations and the DDP and put it into annual passes. Go ahead and go on this free trip and you'll have AP's and can go back sooner. All you have to pay for is rental car, that's pretty good. I think I would do it for the selfish reason of getting AP's - per my plan.

Then, you can go back within a year's time and get a discount on a Disney resort.

Just a thought.

PamNC

I think that's a great idea!

Honestly - I know how you feel about the on site thing. But some of the alternate ideas here are also appealing like splitting your stay and renting a room with everyone's name and adding the dining plan.

But whatever you decide - have a great trip. Just set aside some time to be with your friends. Also - they may not understand your decision. Don't expect them to. You have to experience on site before you get it.

I think the post was meant to be humorous actually..I have never paid 5 dollars for a soda at the Disney Resorts(refillable mugs, baby!) and the buses to me are fine. I have stayed offsite and will never do it again..To me, convenience is worth paying for-why would I want to be aggravated on vacation? Just my humble opinion. Sign me, another Disney Snob.:)
