When DVC announced VWL and BCV, there was alot of excitement on the boards, people couldn't wait to start adding on. When they announced EP, I was thinking about another possible add-on after I see it. But when they announced DI, it sparked virtually no interest in me. Do you think it will sell at the rate BCV is going ? Just curious to know what others think.

I don't think it will sell at the rate of BCV. They need something, it is lacking. The proximity to DD is nice, but not an a par with the Boardwalk area nearness. We have heard that the units are going to be the same small units as BWV, BCV, VWL, I don't see the draw. It is a great resort with some fantastic buildings and one of the greatest restaruants ever closed, Seasons.

I can even imagine the resort area itself being nicer than OKW. Depending on what is left there, it could have some much nicer facilities. It could be a spectacular resort, but I don't think any of that will be enough with those same small units.

I am thinking the same thing about EP. Without the proximity, actually being at, a major destination area, I think OKW resales will blow away the deals that DVD will be able to give....unless we see a later expiration date.

No. That is why we decided to go ahead and add on at BCV. I just couldn't get excited about either one (or about paying more than $75 a point).

You know it's funny. One of my first posts on this board was asking if anyone ever thought they would make DI into a DVC. The astounding NO that was posted over and over agin kind of gives me a chuckle now.;)

I am waiting to see what the final results are in how it looks and of course what the price is up to by then. For us being close to DTD would be a huge plus as we spend a good deal of time there.I have a feeling though, families aren't going to go for this one too much.

That shows you just how much we do know, so there!!!

We never looked at DTD as a resort area.Basically on departure day we hit Market Place for specific items we wanted to purchase. Pleasure Island isn't an attraction to us- very UNDISNEY atmosphere. West End can be a freak show. I don't know much about DI, never been thru it and apparently a great resturant is now closed.

It's hard to get excited about something we know virtually nothing about. It also may depend on what they plan to do with the entire area. If they can make use of the spa and theater facilities and come up with something really special, there may be a great demand.

I was a lot more excited about EP. Still too many "unknowns" to have feelings one way or the other.

Yeah, I wish we knew more about what this resort would offer. I would love to know more about the resort before commiting to a BCV purchase, but I'm not going to wait for another price hike to find out. Plus, I think proximity to the parks is more important to me than proximity to Downtown Disney.

I have a hard time seeing how this one will have an edge over OKW resales. OKW offers more room for less points than the newer resorts. So, unless they have some tricks up their sleeves (later end date?), I wonder how they will justify the current point prices for this resort over resales at the existing resorts.

Raise the official right of first refusal threshold to $80.

I think the lack of excitement about the new DVC resort at Downtown Disney is due to a variety of factors:
  • Uninspiring announcement (unlike Eagle Pines).
  • No mention of resort theme or name in the announcement.
  • No artist's renderings accompanying the announcement.
  • Impression that this project was hastily conceived after Villas at DI Resort was largely shuttered.
  • No follow-up announcements since the original announcemnt earlier this year.
  • Unsubstaniated rumor on this board that units will have compact floor plans, similar to BWV, VWL, and BCV, even though the resort isn't connected to a deluxe resort (unlike those others).
Actually, this could be a wonderful DVC resort. The views from the balconies (across the water to Downtown Disney) should be magnificent. The existing DI main complex should make a terrific village center for the new resort. The easy access to Downtown Disney will make it easy to go there for shopping and dining.

I imagine that DVD isn't saying anything because they don't want to shift the attention off BCV. But it's also good PR to keep DVC members excited about future DVC projects. By now, DVC undoubtedly has detailed plans and artist's renderings. Let's see them!

Sounds alot like what alot of us thought when DVC was first sold as DVC - not OKW!! What a timeshare that expires? Not much around that area. Why would we spend $8000 to stay at DW for a week a year. Then DVC offered free tickets and other nice incentives and 7 resorts later we get DI. Hey, maybe the year ending will change or incentives but it will sell. Disney and DVC continue to flourish. It will be interesting to watch. I hope the incentives are not too good as I promised DH we are done with add on's!!!:D

You never know.....I personally am not interested in adding on points at this time with the little we know about DI nor am I interested in adding on at EP, because I am one that likes my DVC resort to be close to the parks. But I know people that have stayed for years at DI/ Disney Village and loved it, they were very upset about this resort closing, these people never had the slightest interest in buying a DVC membership until....YUP, now that DI is being made into a DVC they are seriously considering buying a membership!! So I am sure there are others like these people that a DI DVC resort will appeal greatly to.

Just a quick note to go along with the subject of this thread. We attended the member update at BWV last Thursday and the DVC resort at DD was mentioned by the host. The theme of the resort is still not firmed up but the estimated time for completion is the spring of 2004. We heard several comments from boat drivers about DD expanding to include a new side of restaurants and shops that would basically connect with the DVC resort area. The new area would be called Downtown Disney East Side. I'm sure this would help the appeal of the new DVC resort especially to those who aren't as concerned about being close to a theme park per say but like the action/nightlife that a place such as the BW currently offers. :)

If the rumored monorail expansion were to be true and it included a link to DTD, it could get interesting.:smooth:

Last December, I gave DI a try--thought it might work out for me when I wanted to go to WDW and had no available points. I really liked it. I could walk to DTD and to the bus stop, where I could get transportation to anywhere! I don't know if I'll add on there, but I definitely will give it a try and stay using points. :D

If the rumored monorail expansion were to be true and it included a link to DTD, it could get interesting.

That would be a serious draw.

But, a monorail expansion to DTD/DI, would only take a couple bucks to extend to OKW.

I think DI could have great potential. I would like it if it was truly a "Home Away From Home" resort. Larger rooms like OKW. A lot of great activities and games to participate in. A great pool theme. Bikes, boats, etc... DVC could make one hell of a DVC resort for all of us if they put their mind to it. Maybe a larger food shopping area for members. Maybe if we voice our opinions of what we would like we could actually get it. I personally would like a better workout facility and more tennis courts free for members.

I wouldn't be surpised if DI is the "BEST" of the on-site DVC propertys. I really think DVC has something up there sleeves for this one!!!!!;)

The thing that turns me off is the small rooms.

That is the only thing. I agree that it could be a fantastic resort. But that announcement talked about rooms similar in size to BWV.

I agree small rooms are not the way to go but, smaller rooms = more rooms ..right? money money money... they(disney) are just looking to make the most money. Still nothing beats OKW.....Well maybe BCV, on location only.................dave:cool:
