I need to know....if so, I need to pack them. On second thought, I'll pack them anyway!!

This is an interesting idea. I don't own a walkie-talkie, but they are always on sale most of the time. I have bought a Verizon "Free-Up", prepaid phone recently that I was going to take with me, but maybe a walke-talkie may make more sense at DIS-CON-II.

Some questions, please:

1. If a thousand families bring their walkie-talkies to WDW, do you end up answering everyone's call...lol?

2. What kind of distance apart can you use these?

3. Do only certain brand names work with different brand names?

4. What the best one to get from your experience?

5. What's the most compact one available?

Thank you in advance, Ray :)

Ray, I have a motorola FR60 with the subchannels and I always take them to WDW and they work wonderfully, the distance range is 2 miles so as long as we are in the same park we can reach each other , dh was in our hotel room last year at the contemporary and he could talk to us in Fantasyland , I really love taking those things. I also do have my prepaid cell phone which I could use too but I don't think I would give my number out to many people..LOL.
I don't know if this would actually be a good idea but it's a thought!

I'll run upstairs and make sure to pack mine too. :)

I was thinking about bringing mine too. I actually have 8 (or maybe six) that have the subchannels so if this is something we might want to do....I'll pack them to have them. I have spare batteries and a battery charger too. I would just need to make sure I have them back by the 9th. How would we coordinate what subchannel and channel we would be on???? I LOVE the ones with the subchannels!!!! The one I have also has a temp guage on it too (it registers the temp and places it up every so often). I love them - they are the GE's. I also have one that has a NOAA weather radio channel on it too. And no...I'm not addicted to them but I have purchased them for our girl scout unit.

I will be bringing my motorola talkabouts!!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

I tried using those things last year with my extended family - and I think they stink! I'm switching my cell phone service to nationwide just before DIS-CON - so that's how I'll keep in touch - IF I need to talk to anyone. ;)

We always bring our Motorola talkabouts and they are great...very rarely do we have any interferance...once or twice but not too much...we have five...maybe we will bring extra to share.....

I always have my cell phone, I have a nationwide plan and I have more than enough minutes for the week. I also carry it so my hubby at home can call whenever he wants and it is a local call for him. It sounds like we will have a nice variety of cell phones and walkie talkies. No one can get lost in this group!!:jester:

The radios work well if you have the sub codes.

We could have a DIS Con channel and code or maybe different ones for different mini meets.

This way I can sit on aBar stool and just liten to the other events - LOL

(Turn'm off in shows so they don't squack at the wrong time.)

Patrick - what a great idea! If any of the rides have long lines, you can just send up a flare, and while people stop to look at the "fireworks" - presto! No more lines!! :teeth:

I second what Zurg said, if you have the subchannels it works great , we could set up different channels one for discon and one for mini meets. There are some of us who will have cell phones but that will not have the national coverage, that is expensive for us to use it all day. This can help to keep that bill down.

I will also have my cellphone but I don't have one that has the "talkabout" feature like the two way radios. But it will be on me at all times so my family can reach me if needed also! Especially so my dd can call me when she gets home from school each day.
