Are we crazy? Considering resort only-Summer

We are seriously considering resort only vacation in the summer. I know many restrictions will be in play. I’m ok with that and plan on taking precautions with my family as well. We are not in the vulnerable group and honestly I think 2 of us have already had it. Anyone thinking about this?

Sure enjoy the pool. Sleep late and laze around the villa. We've got the feeling we got the virus in December on our WDW trip then.

Considering everyone staying in the resort will have most likely come in contact with everyone in the park, your chances of catching something arent reduced greatly.

Spend most of your time outside in the sunshine and heat, plus keep social distance of 6 feet and you should be pretty good. Plus book OKW or SSR so you can avoid tight corridors and elevators.

I have a feeling OKW and SSR are going to be popular for the foreseeable future.

I booked OKW this summer just for that reason.

We have always wanted to try OKW. The only thing I will be concerned is if pools will be open? Other options I’m looking at is WL because we love both pools and outdoor bar/dining. AK for animals to watch

Yes I’m aware virus is still among us and will be for long time. We would be practicing with masks and sanitizer when needed.

I have stayed at SSR and been to OKW these resorts are definitely big enough where if you want to do a hotel stay only there are ways to NOT come in any contact with park guests.

I think it would be nice as long as the pools are open. I don't know how crowded the pools would be, may be a bit of a challenge to social distance at a crowded pool like Stormalong Bay at YC/BC.

Actually, maybe the OP, like me, is concerned about the "getting to the parks" part if they have to use Disney transportation.

Unfortunately, we still have to get on a flight with so many other people.

Yes, that's our main concern also. The alternative would be to drive, but for us, it's a 2 day drive, meaning one night in a hotel. That concerns us just as much. This is the time I wish Scotty could "beam me up".

I wonder about the pools. I would have to think they will have to move the chairs further away from each other limiting capacity at any given time. I can also see them needing to manage the pool chair saving. Not that it's super prevalent at WDW, but the going down at 7am and putting books on chairs and showing up at noon won't fly. Pools like SAB could have time limits and reservations to make sure it isn't overcrowded.

For us, a resort only trip would have to include the pool and at least some restaurant/non carryout options. We cancelled our BWV September trip, but I thought it would have been neat if Epcot was closed to move a few of the F&W booths around Crescent Lake.

I have a trip planned for BWV in the middle of June and mid October. If open, I will go and enjoy without worrying. My guess is, millions have already had covid-19 and were asymptomatic or thought it was the flu. I am mid 50s with no underlying medical conditions. We will never know the denominator to this equation. The death rate is going to end up being slightly higher than the flu. Yes this is a very serious issue and I agree with the governments response and shut down so far, but we can’t live like this forever.

I dont think that is accurate. Staying at a resort you will have less contact for sure, and can control social distancing easier. Just with handrails in queues ride seats, and everything you touch (IMO), you are more likely to have greater chance of contact, especially at park entrances and transportation. The other thing is it give you a vacation at WDW that most likely will do things better than a hotel at the beach, and avoid the new park entrance policies which will be new to all.

We have a December trip booked at OKW and it would also be 2-day drive for us. I would consider just a resort stay but transportation is an issue.

How old are your kids? I can't imagine our grandkids would be happy being at WDW and not being able to go in to the parks. They love the pools and the resorts, but look forward to the parks and the attractions. If they couldn't go in to the parks, then they would much rather be at a beach hotel.

For that reason, I'm actually hoping that the DVC resorts open later, rather than sooner. If the rooms open, and the park doesn't, then we wouldn't want to go. Unfortunately we have a lot of points tied up in DVC for a trip that was suppose to begin on May 23rd. From my interpretation of the Corona cancellation policies, if the DVC resorts open, then we don't get our points back. Without the points being put back, then we probably won't have enough points for next year.

We didn't buy DVC for a place to go and stay, we bought because we wanted a place to stay when we go to the parks.
