Are we better to get 2 rooms or 1?

We are a family of 5. Are we better to get the 1 category 4 room or 2 category 11 rooms?

It is actually cheaper for us to get the two rooms, and it might be nicer to have two baths and more space with the two rooms, but would we miss the verandah?

It would be our first cruise, and I'm not sure how much time we'd spend out on the verandah.

Anyways, My vote is to get 2- category 11. You have the advantage of both split bathrooms...If you never sailed before, then you wont know what your missing with the verandah, Plus- you probably wont be in your stateroom that much anyways...I dont plan to be, lol

Just a small note--category 11 rooms are not Split bathrooms like in the category 10's and above. Category 11 & 12's have a single bathroom in them and you cannot get connecting rooms in these 2 categories (if that matters at all to you). Just wanted to let you know.

We did connecting category 10 rooms this past summer and liked them very much---it was also our 1st ever cruise. While I'd likely love a veranda, I would not have traded having 2 showers, 4 sinks, and 2 toilets!!! Also, keeping the connecting doors open made our area seem like a suite and the square feet when adding the 2 connecting rooms was like 428' rather than 304' in 1 category 4 room. 2 TV's and the kids having their own "space" was also a great benefit, though we didn't spend much time watching TV! Whatever decision you end up making, you will have an incredible experience. Good luck!

If you have anyone like a teenage daughter DEFINITELY go for the 2 rooms - you WILL need the extra bath!

We are 5 and got 2 rooms. As was correctly stated, category 11 rooms do not connect and do not have split baths. If your children are young, you'd probably want to go up to at least a 10, then Mom and Dad can have one room, with the children connecting. Even with the category 10, you'll still save a bit of money.

The two split baths were great and we had a lot of space for 5 with 2 cabins.

We're a family of 5 and always get 2 cabins. We get a category 6 with a verandah for my husband and I, and a category 11 inside right across the hallway for our 3 kids. We've offered to upgrade them to a verandah room and they don't want it, they love the darkness and coziness of the inside cabin!! I love having the extra closet and storage space, the privacy, and the extra bathroom. It still ends up being cheaper than a category 4 for my family and we just love it.

We opted for two Cat. 5 for the four of us last cruise. It worked out great....the kids had their own room with all their stuff (teddy bears, beach toys, etc) and my wife and I had our own space. There was never a wait for bathrooms or showers. They were adjoining however, and we kept the doors propped open.

I would definitely vote for two smaller cabins over one larger one.

WE booked a 6 and 11 for our next cruise. We like the idea of two bathrooms, plus still having a verandah. It is cheaper than a cat. 4.

We are also a family of 5 (2 teenage DD's and a 10 yr old DS). We booked a category 10 for us and an 11 across the hall for the kids. Like the idea of 2 bathrooms - and the privacy of a separate room for us! This is our first cruise and I'm jumping out of my skin waiting for 3/14!

I just posted this on another thread but this summer my DH, DS and I went on a Carnival Cruise, wanting to try a less expensive cruise before shelling out the money on the Disney Cruise next year. I went ahead and booked a 4 day Cat #3 for next year before we left on the Carnival cruise this year thinking I would prefer to have a large suite. Well, I can tell you we were not in our rooms much at all. We stayed up on the main deck where everything is going on, went to see shows, or played bingo. We were mainly in our room to shower and change or sleep.

One the drive home DH and I discussed it and decided to go for a longer cruise (7 day) in 2 connecting cat #10s( there will be 6 of us going this next year). I have no doubt that the cat 1-3's are super nice but I personally don't want to be in my room unless I have to be. I can stay in my room at home!!

Our two cents...
We have a family of 6 so we always need to book two rooms, but our opinion is that we would book two rooms just for the privacy and 2 split baths. In 1998 we had two connecting with portholes & it was great. Our second cruise in 2001 we had a category 6 for the adults with a verandah and a category 11 for the 4 kids across the hall. For this Cristmas cruise, we are repeating the cat 6 & 11.
