Are we allowed to bring this on the plane?

We are going to MNNSHP and wanted to bring a can of temporary hair color for my dd who is going to be Mulan. I have looked at the TSA restricted list but it seems vague in saying a limitied # of personal aerosol type items can be taken.

It is a 3.85 oz. can. It does have a "Flammable contents under pressure" warning on it. Would this be more like a can of hair spray or should I just leave it home?

I took the same thing on the plane with me last year. I packed it in my checked luggage so that I wouldn't get it taken from me if there was a problem.

Technically it is hazardous material.

Gases and Pressure Containers: Flammable aerosols like hair spray, spray paint, or insect repellant; carbon dioxide cartridges, oxygen tanks (scuba or medical), mace, tear gas, pepper spray, self-inflating rafts, and deeply refrigerated gases such as liquid nitrogen

Flammable Liquids and Solids: Gasoline, propane, butane, and other fuels; lights with flammable reservoirs, matches, flammable paints, paint thinners, some cleaning solvents, some adhesives, cigarette lighters, and lighter fluid. Personal care items containing flammable perfume, aerosols, or other hazardous material may be carried on board in limited quantities.

Confusing isn't it!!

Refer to http://www.airsafe.com/danger.htm

For what it's worth this is what is on the books if you are caught in violation. Problably won't happen, and rare if it did (IMHO), but if someone on duty got up on the wrong side of the bed who knows.

Declaring Hazardous Materials: In the U.S., you must declare hazardous materials to airlines, express package carriers, or the U.S. Postal Service. Violations can result in either fines or imprisonment.

If you can buy it at home you can buy it there.

Yes, it does seem confusing. I think I will put in in my checked bag and hope that the worst that would happen is that they would confiscate it. We don't have access to any stores once we are there. Thanks for the help!

If it was me I wouldn't take it then when I got down there go to a store and buy a can, I look at it better safe then sorry :sunny:

We found gel that temporarily colors the kids hair. It is non aresol and non flammable. Check with a local hairdresser or costume shop. I have also found some colors available in mousse.
