Are Universal allowed to update the Marvel Superheroes?

Here's something i was thinking of, whilst reading a old spiderman comic.

Due to the Disney ownership of Marvel, i've read a lot about the limits in WDW for marvel characters, however i haven't come across any articles dealing with the limits on Universal.

Are Universal restricted from adding anything new marvel related, rides or even characters?
Or are they even restricted from updatng the existing attractions?

Last year, Universal replaced the videos in Spiderman with high def videos, so they must have the rights to update existing attractions. As for adding new characters to Marvel Island, the unverified consensus here is that they cannot.

From what I understand they can continue to use and update all chracters /attractions currently in use ( they just updated spiderman this past year)and can use families of characters unless they choose otherwise.Disney can not utilize them in Florida unless Universal gives up its rights.
