Now that my boyfriend ran out and bought one, can we actually use one in our room?

:hyper:

I had also wondered this when we first started planning and I was told that it was not allowed.

There are community irons to use in the laundry room.

I bought some Downy Wrinkle Release and am taking a thin cloth to use as a cover so if there is something on their irons, it won't ruin my clothes.

Hopefully he still has the receipt, or save it for your next trip!

Have a great time.

No irons allowed in the cabins. There are irons in the laundry room.

This topic is always a hot one. You ARE allowed to bring you OWN irons. They only ask you not to use them in the rooms. We used our own, so as not to get any brown water stains on our clothing from the "community irons". And flame me, but we used ours in our room. And we didn't start any fires.

How about those steam units. Are they allowed?

Well, I know the "official rule" is NO irons, including steamers in the staterooms. The normal response you usually get on this subject from most is, a strong NO, and the reasons are: "you will surely burn the ship to the ground if you use one, and you will forget to shut it off, and think of all the people whose lives you put at risk JUST to iron your clothes in the room. " OFFICIALLY no irons or any HEAT type of device for safety reasons.

I took a travel iron on our last Jan 2003 cruise, it was left out in the open and the room steward never said a thing to us. The oval table in front of the sofa has a lever that moves the table to different heights. We used that as an ironing table just put a bath towel on top and it worked out great for us. But I think as previous posters have said....they do discourage it.

Irons and steamers are not allowed for use in the staterooms. You are welcome to use these in the laundry rooms, however.

Fire at sea is a nightmare that most never want to contend with. On one of my Magic cruises, there was a small fire in one of the gift shops. We were at late dinner when the announcement came and we were advised of the deck number and area that was off limits. In fact, the fire doors swing shut when the alarm is called and it is not possible to travel towards the section where the fire is being fought.

Fortunately this entailed just some smoke damage and the shops were open the following day. But it puts your heart in your throat to hear "fire on board ship.."

So I would urge everyone to take DCL's policies to heart here and do not put folks at risk. Nobody ever intends to start a fire, but accidents can and do occur. If you do not want to visit the laundry room, remember you can also send items out to be pressed only with DCL's staff. :)

For half the price of cleaning, you can have the onboard laundry service press all of your clothes. They come out wonderfully and it's expensive at all. Our first day we sent out DH's and DS's dress shirts and they were back the next day. I think four shirts cost around $6. Well worth it to not have to pack the iron, worry about fire or heat damage, and take the time to deal with it. Your cabin steward will take the laundry items for you. The shirts were returned on a hanger in plastic, just like at home--gave us a few extra hangers in the cabin as well :)

I love freshly ironed clothes, but I know how many times my auto-shut off feature has saved me on my iron at home.

I would never risk it. CarolAnnK makes a scary, valid point.
