Are they kidding with those closets?

Please excuse my typing/spelling errors, as I am attempting to use one of these web tv things. I am actually stuck in a hotel at the airport in Orlando for several days (work, not play).

Two quick points-
1) All of my rooms have been pre-assigned, even since the room ready policy.

2) A small closet in the master bedroom?????
Every closet I have had a VWL has been enormous. Could you have got a corner, or some other odd room that would impede clost space?

That being said, I am sorry DVC did not live up to your expectaions. I hope you decide to give it another try. :(

VickieVM,

We also rented points from Luckytso (for the 4th time, I think) to stay at The Boardwalk during Christmas week!
Isn't she wonderful? :D
We did the same thing you did, but we stayed at Pop Century on Saturday night. It was our first time at a value resort and it was fine, brand new and nice and clean.
We are early risers and arrived to pre-check in at The Boardwalk at about 7:45 am Sunday morning. Our Boardwalk view studio was ready and we were all settled in, with our tree up, by 8:30!
I was so happy!!

We have not always been so fortunate but we've never had a less than fantastic DW vacation.

Just being there makes everything good. ::yes::

I do hope the OP gives DVC another chance during a less busy season and I hope her experience is a more magical one.

I, too, admit to being confused by the "two foot wide" closet in the master bedroom. We were just at BCV several weeks ago in a two-bedroom, and I stayed in the master bedroom. The only closet I can remember in that room was the large, walk-in closet off the room where the tub is located (I think; the doors may have me confused ;) ). I wonder . . . might you have been in a handicap accessible room? Did you have a "roll-in" shower, by any chance. If so, perhaps the closets are different in those rooms. I've never been in one, so I don't know.

At any rate, I am sorry your first visit was disappointing, and I hope you give it another try before selling.

293 days and counting . . . again!

Sounds to me like you should try staying at OKW! We have HUGE closets there, as well as huge rooms, and no long hallways either! I have ALWAYS gotten my general requests, and always been placed near other guests when we have requested it. We also have never had a bad view there. Try it, you might like it!

I stayed at BCV last Oct and remember having my carry-on suitcase spreadout in the closet from the door to the back wall, with 6-8 inches to spare plus I could walk into the closet beside the suitcase. We had five people, and so had five Halloween costumes (3 of them bulky princess ones) and five light jackets hanging in the closet. There was certainly space for more.

For a week long trip, I think it had plenty of space. I don't expect to have what I have at home.

And for check in, I hope you really weren't expecting to get your room at 7:30? Check in and get keys. But the official time to get in your room is 4pm, so adjust your expectations. You have many more years to get into rooms that are ready before 4, and sometimes you won't get them.

And for the view - like all have said - time booked doesn't matter and you went in the busiest season. Again, you have many more years to get the choice views.

Either that or sell DVC and buy a timeshare where you have a set room so you always know your view. Of course, you won't be staying on property and you will give up your flexibility for time, but with DVC, you can't always have both.

It really is too bad you had a less than positive experience. I still remember our first stay as DVCers. I don't thing we stopped smiling for an hour after we walked in. I used to be very concerned about what view we would have. Whether preferred or standard, I have not had a bad view. I don't even bother with many specific requests now other than non-smoking. We actually now prefer the standard view as it saves a lot of points. As to the closet, I am also a little confused. We have been thrilled with the space of the master bedroom closet. For a hotel/timeshare I have always thought it was very roomy. Granted it isn't the size of many home walk-in closets but we have been very pleased. We also bought sight unseen and have stayed at OKW, BWV and VB. We have not had a bad stay, bad room or bad view. My DH and I feel it is the best purchase we've made. Hope you have better luck with your next visit.

I don't want to sound like I am picking on you, but are you kidding? You went to WDW during one of the busiest times of the year, and you didn't get what you asked for. Well I hate to ad mit this but we have stayed at the Boardwalk four times and got a BW view three of them. Next time I go, if I don't get it should I be upset? No way! They try to do the best for you and if they can't do it well that's the way the cookie crumbles. They are only obligated to let you check in after 4:00, if they have the rooms completed, they let you check in earlier. If you don't like waiting in line, try going in September or October when there are no crowds. As for the closets, did you take a tour or see the units prior to purchasing. If this was not the same size as the unit you toured you have a valid complaint and I would take it up with my sales advisor. That is not right to show you one thing and give you another.

You need to realize that Disney is a very busy place at times and they do things for a reason, even if you don't like it. Sounds to me like they lived up to their obligations (except for the closet if they showed you a larger one) and you really have nothing to be upset about.

I am one of those who normally goes off season and lots of time my room is ready before 4. This last visit was Christmas week and my room was not ready until 4. (Actually the assigned room was not ready then, but they moved me!)

I expected to have to wait due to the holidays. The place was full and if the last person in my two bedroom had kids etc... it can take a while to clean.

I can't comment on the closets, but at OKW my Mom stated the unit had more closet space then her house!

Any timeshare requires planning. If you buy the traditional type you just plan the rest of your life around the vacation.

Maybe Helen and I stayed in the same 1-bedroom at BCV. But I swear that the closet in the master bedroom wasn't evan 1/2 as deep as the ones at BWV. We only had three medium sized suitcases with us and they just fit in the bottom of the closet. I was glad that we flew because we wouldn't have had room for all the junk I usually bring when we drive. I'm wondering if the unit I was in last May is not the norm. Oh well, who knows?

Do you remember what your room number was, Eva? It might be interesting to make a note about the small closet on the room chart we're compiling.

Pat

Gosh, I wish that I did. It was a 2nd floor dedicated 1-bedroom facing the quiet pool. We are going back in May. Maybe I will remember to get the number then. I do know the exact location. When you take the elevator from the pool area up to the 2nd floor you just take a right and it is the first room. Sure was convenient.
