I mean, these shows just seem to come out of nowhere.

People's Court (I like)
Judge Mathis (I like)
Judge Judy (My favorite)
Judge Alex (eh...)
Judge Joe Brown (double eh...)
Judge David Young? :confused3
Divorce Court? (what happened to Judge Mablean?)
Christina's Court? :confused3
Judge Maria Lopez? :confused3

Are they for real?

I was contacted by Judge Judy because I filed a civil suit a few years back. I believe she is the REAL-est of the bunch. Unfortunately, the person I was suing did NOT want to make an A out of herself on national TV (I guess it was because it was how she made her LIVING!!) and we couldn't appear.. waaaaah! I wanted to meet Judge Judy!! She is the total embodiment of my MOM!!:rotfl:

I was talking to my sister about the People's Court yesterday. A coworker of my BIL was on it last year. The coworker lost.

Yes, they're real, but the litigants receive a "stipend" for appearing on the show, and awards are made to the winning parties from that. It's small claims court, too, and the amount litigants can sue for depends on their state and other jurisdictional matters.

I love me some People's Court.

For sure they are real. I dont how much the judges are make caractures out of themselves but they are real judges making real small claim court rulling. People are paid for there appearances on the show as well as whatever settlments they are receiving. A couple of the court shows use to keep in contact with our local court incase any good small claims cases came in that could be refered to the show.

Oh....well I really love Judge Judy. She'll just come out and say "Listen sir, SIR, you're an IDIOT!" LOL....I love that.

They have always been presented as real, the only problem I have is how can there be sooo many really dumb, dumb, dumb people living in this country.

J.J.B. is the only one I have seen that awards beyond amount asked for and has even given personal money out.

What am I saying... I'd watch a test pattern... :headache: :rotfl2:

I wondered what ever happened with that. I knew you were excited that the show contacted you.

I love Judy Judy and The People's court. Can't get into the others.

They are real. When I was in high school some students were sent to be in the audience of The People's Court. A few of my friends were included and they enjoyed it. I personally held out hoping they'd send students to Judge Judy. ;)

I know my uncle was supposed to be on one of them. I didn't bother to ask if he went through with it or not.

My favorite was Judge Mayblean. Divorce Court has not been the same since she left the show. :(

Judge Judy is my absolute favorite. I had to stop turning her on when I was working because I paid more attention to her than my work! I'm not crazy about Judge Mathis, I do like the People's Court and Judge Alex. Sure beats watching soap operas is what I tell my husband!

i think the most accurate one was 'judge mills lane' (rip:guilty: ). he was the only judge that would die hard follow the rules of the jurisdiction the case was under (and he often said he did'nt agree with a particular ruling he was making but it was'nt his job to make the law-just to make sure it was accuratly administered).

i realy love court shows, but i do get frustrated when certain judges chastize litigents for what the judge believes is a violation of a particular welfare regulation, touting their years working within the system. often the rules they are citing have been long ago changed, and the lititgents are entirely within the letter of current welfare laws.

Yikes, I remember him...he died...? How sad. If I remember right, he had two very young sons. Didn't he do some acting? OH WAIT...naa wasn't he a boxing ref something like that??? :confused3:

I love PEOPLE'S COURT and Judge Marilyn!! She is great!!! :thumbsup2:

Oh....well I really love Judge Judy. She'll just come out and say "Listen sir, SIR, you're an IDIOT!" LOL....I love that.

The other day I was watching Judge Judy and the show starts and the litigants take their place and JJ turns to Bird and says.."Bird, what we have here is DUMB and DUMBER!"....I was like... AND throughout the rest of the hearing she referred to both litigants only as DUMB and DUMBER!!!

As far as I can tell online he's still alive. Had a stroke in '02 that left him disabled. From what I can tell, his youngest children would both be in their
20's now.

Yup, just read your link..his sons are now 25 & 21 and he is 71 years old.

He was on America's Judge in 1998. He would have been 62yo then. Just read that he was the Boxing Ref when Tyson bit off Holyfield's ear!!! Lane auctioned off his blood splattered ref's shirt from the ring and made some good money doing so!!!

LOL....I'm watching it now....LOL....here's how it just went:

Judge Judy: "Maam, MAAM, are you on medication?!?!"

Defendant: "No, I am not"

Judge Judy: "Well you should be."

:rotfl2:

I know some were actual judges (Judge Judy in Family court, etc.). Maria Lopez was run out of Boston on a rail practically after an insane display on the stand that (thank God) was captured by local media.

A guy (who happened to be a transsexual) had kidnapped a little boy and made him perform oral sex on him at knifepoint. An off duty cop happened to be passing and saw this, made the arrest.

Lopez was notorious for bending over backwards for sex offenders, so the prosecutors tipped off the media to be there to see how she handled the case. She basically screamed at the prosecutor instead of letting him complete a sentence, ordered him to sit down like a raging harpie, and let the guy get off with pretty much no punishment (maybe it was house arrest at his public housing address with lots of kids in it -- my memory's fading. I do remember he was run out of public housing after that because it was for his mother and there was no obligation that the state should house HIM there). At any rate, she turned things around so that this "poor misunderstood man" was the victim instead of the child with the knife to his throat.

At any rate, she and her husband were so furious at the media coverage that to "defend" her they started a smear campaign against the little boy victim. It was really low down and dirty (of course her husband publishes the local escort service newspaper of record, so...)

At any rate, she got fired as a judge because the heat was getting too hot and other judges were beginning to be looked at in hopes of finding more abuses, so they cut their losses and booted her out.

And so she got a tv contract. But at least little children are a bit safer in Boston.
