Are there w/c's provided at rides?

For a ride an EVC user needs to transfer to a wheelchair, are there wheelchairs provided at that ride?

My dad will more than likely be using an EVC exclusively while touring the parks. He is normally in a wheelchair, and I wanted to rent him an EVC for his convenience...knowing that we may separate at times, and knowing that he could probably not wheel himself around all day, nor could my mom (who may or may not be in an EVC due to needing a hip replacement).

I'm positive my mom will be able to park her EVC and walk a queue. My dad will not be able to at all. I guess I started wondering if getting him an EVC for his trip was actually the wrong decision if it was going to mess with his ride (accessible ride cars) capability.

TIA!

Only a handful of rides allow a guest to ride while in an ECV but that should not stop him from getting one. There are more rides that take a wheelchair but still not a lot. He can use the ECV to get to the ride. In many cases he can drive up to the ride and transfer to the ride vehicle. Some rides require him to transfer to a wheelchair and ride and others to the chair then transfer to the ride vehicle.

He cannot walk the park and you do not have an army of people to push him in a wheelchair thus get him an ECV. The ECV will give him the freedom to go where he wants like the bathroom without depending on people. The wheelchair is easier in crowds, lines, etc but it takes lots of energy to push the person, someone to push the person where they want to go, and patience with the ninnies who dart in front of the chair.

The ride experts will be able to tell you about the transferring to a wheelchair because I have an answer but might be wrong, again, lol.

Generally if a ride requires transfer from an ECV to a wheelchair and then to the ride vehicle they will have a supply of wheelchairs availabe at the entrance for this use. I know they have this for Pirates and Space. I think Star Tours may do this also.

Thank you both.

What about rides like Buzz and Jungle Cruise and IASW and Figment...rides that have a car or boat that is accessible? I'm assuming these also will have a supply of w/c's for riders' use?

We just came back from WDW, those rides all have wheelchairs and I watched the CM's transfer ECV's to a regular wheelchair. My brother is 40 yrs old and in a wheelchair (non ecv), so I paid very close attention to what rides he could go on in the chair, and what rides he may have to be transferred to.

Have fun! Hope this helps!

Buzz when you get near the front of the line they will send you through a door to the unload area. You can then park your ECV nearby and you board at the normal unload.

JC has a special waiting are (on the left as you face the entrance) and you will park your ECV and walk onto the boat. They do have one lift-equipped boat, but most people are able to transfer.

IASW you will go partway through the queue, then detour to the unload area. There are one or two boats with ramps where a wheelchair can load or people can walk down the ramp to a seat.

Figment has at least one car which is accessible. It will handle either a regular wheelchair or a power chair. In an ECV you can park right at load and they will move the ECV to next to unload. I have never seen transfer wheelchairs there.

That is great news! That was news I was hoping to hear...

Unfortunately this is what I was afraid of and find disconcerting. My dad will not be able to walk onto a boat. I think he will be able to transfer to things like Haunted Mansion, BTMRR, I *don't* think he'll be able to transfer to POTC. I may not be giving him enough credit, but unless he started some weight training for his upper body today, I'm pretty sure that the transfers he will do will be all he can do and that anywhere where he can roll directly onto a ride (e.g. IASW, Buzz, et al) will be v. v. helpful.

I realize I have 9 months to figure it all out...but this is what is going through my head right now...'okay, my usually-in-a-wheelchair dad will be using an EVC for touring, there are rides that are wheelchair accessible, but he may not be able to ride these rides because he's using an EVC instead of his wheelchair.' :headache:

On Jungle Cruise you can stay in your wheelchair and use a boat that has a lift to get him on.:thumbsup2
