I was just thinking, with all the hurricane stuff, it probably would be pretty safe to be in the utilidors during something like that. Then I got to wondering...are they in every park, or just MK? I never hear of them anywhere else. Does anyone know?

MK and Part of Epcot has utilidors. At least that was my understanding when I was a CM in 1999.

I know the studios don't have them at all.

EPCOT has a small tunnel and the BW has a tunnel system.

MGM has NO tunnel system. It is REALLY confusing to get around MGM.

Epcot's all above ground though
There is a 3/4 circle tunnel that is about 10'-0" wide and it is divided into 1 side for walking and one side for carts. It is not very high either.

Um ... no. In a tornado, yes, but in a hurricane, you NEVER want to go underground in any way; that is an excellent way to die young. The water is the really deadly hazard in a hurricane, not the wind.

Even though the MK's utilidors are actually at ground level, the fact that they are under a whole lot of segmented concrete and buildings that cannot absorb water would make them dangerous in a hurricane. If ground caved in anywhere above, even a few sq. ft., the water would pour into the tunnels as if they were giant storm sewers, and anyone inside would almost surely drown before the tunnels' regular drainage system could absorb the water.

I suppose that Disney decided, after experience with the Utilidor system, that it was better to have perimeter support facilities as opposed to underground support facilities, when the time came for the later theme parks.

The buildings at MGM and AK and perhaps some older buildings elsewhere are supposed to withstand a category 3 hurricane which corresponds to about a cat. 1 (F1) tornado. Guests would probably not be let into the Utilidors for a hurricane but rather the parks could close far enough in advance. There is not enough time to get many people into the Utilidors in case of a tornado.
