Are there still any beaches at WDW?

My wife went to WDW as a kid back in the early 70's, and remembers swimming at a beach next to the Contemporary. From everything I've read so far, no such thing exists anymore. But I certainly haven't looked everywhere.

Is there still a beach anywhere in WDW for swimming (i.e. not parasailing, jetskiing, or whatever) accessible by resort guests (i.e. not one of the water parks)? Or is all swimming now being done in a pool?

There are beaches at the Poly & Grand Floridian and I think Contemporary also @ Beach & yacht Club. Swimming is not allowed though. Seems like I remember someone mentioning on the DIS that there are alligators in the water - but I've never seen them so I can't say for sure.

You cannot swim in the lake. Bacteria and other pollutants make it unsafe.

There are plenty of "beaches": Poly, GF, Contemp and CBR all have them. They are nice to relax or play with your kids in the sand on, but as someone else mentioned, no swimming is allowed.

Closest thing to a swimmable beach is the sandy bottom pools at Stormalong Bay at the Yacht and Beach Club Resort, and the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon.

Last time I looked into the water in the lake at CBR it was so mucky and dirty that there'd be no way I'd swim in it even if it was allowed!

They don't want you swimming in it..but they do host a triathlon their at least twice a year....danskin in May (i think that is when it is) and the WDW triathlon that is either this or next weekend.

I don't know what the reasons are for not letting guests swim in it...but Disney haven't completely closed them down per their sports schedule.

There is a fresh water amoeba that can enter through your nose. It can kill you so no swimming in the lakes.
