Are there "nice standard views at AKL?

We have decided to swith from POFQ to AKL for our 4 night stay.

I'd like to know if people feel it's worth it to upgrade to pool view (savannah is too expensive).
Have people had standard views that haven't been too bad or should we request poolview?

Also, can anyone recommend a room # that has a nice view and is non-smoking?

We stayed at AKL in August with a standard view room. I thought it was just fine. Our room was down the hallway to the left if you are facing the lobby (non-pool side). I can't remember the name of the trail. Our room did face a parking lot, but there were lots of tree and shrubs between the room and the lot. It was very quiet. I wouldn't pay extra for a pool view.

At check in, I would ask them nicely for exactly what you wrote "a nice view and is non-smoking". You won't spend much time in your room anyway - you'll be out looking at the animals, swimming in the pool or at the parks. If you're lucky you'll get upgraded to a Savannah view!
