Are there icicle lights on the castle?

Wait?!? Seriously?!?! The icicle lights aren’t coming back this year? You’ve got to be kidding me, right? Will cancel if this is true. Sigh

I’ll,add that I’m doubly disappointed and frankly, annoyed because all,the current commercials running here in FL show the castle with the icicle lights. I was super excited thinking they were back.

They shouldn't be showing the castle covered in icicle lights prominently in current advertising then like in coming back to the magic. False advertising.

I know I'm in the minority but I was never a fan of the icicle lights. I'm a castle purist (not even a big fan of the 50th decor and I DO NOT like the new paint scheme). Glad I get to see my castle au natural.

HATE the new paint. Wanted it the way it is supposed to be for the holidays covering the ugly with the icicle lights.
honestly, I feel like I’m mostly a Disney hater these days. Sad.

Aw, no! I've been rolling with most of the punches lately but this is truly disappointing. The highlight of our Thanksgiving visit every year was standing on Main Street on our way out on our last day, eating popcorn and cotton candy and admiring those lights. I do love the projections, personally, but those icicle lights were just beautiful. I really hope they're back next year.

The 50th Celebration is scheduled to last 18 months.
That would indicate that the current special 50th castle decor would still be in place during the 2022 holiday season.

They must be showing different advertising where you live. The commercials here clearly show the 50th decorations and no icicle lights.

I miss the icicle lights too but no false advertising happening here.

Let’s be honest, they’re never coming back. The projections are probably cheaper then installing and running all those lights.
I liked this post not because I like the idea that the lights are not returning, but for the fact that it is very likely that they aren't. It must have cost a fortune to put them up, set them up, take them down and store them every year. Every year we have heard complaining about the crane ruining the view both putting them up and taking them down. High cost, very little appreciation ends up with the elimination instead of illumination. They now know that they can visually simulate the lights with simple push of a button projections. It's refreshing to hear of someone living in reality.

Ah, well, I'm sure it will be beautiful every year regardless, or people will stop going and they can't have that.

I missed the Osborne lights terribly the first year but now I love the "old-timey" look of Hollywood Studios at Christmas. I mean, I'd love to have the Osborne lights back, but...

As long as I can have my grand total of 25,000 Italian imported twinkle lights illuminating my neighborhood, I'm happy.

It's not really an issue of anything being "cheaper".

The real problem is that the icicle lights wouldn't work over the new castle design. They worked really well over the old castle because it was mostly the same color and there weren't as many details. But there are too many new elements and too many touches now - it would genuinely look terrible if they just slapped them on top of them. (The light would reflect in really strange ways - it would not be as "magical" as what it was.) And, yes, it would also mess up the projections - the old projections were only for the length of whatever show was running, the new ones are perpetual at night.

I think the happy medium would have been to create the icicle effect as part of the projections. I'm a little surprised they didn't do that, at least for the Christmas parties. (Having said that, it wouldn't surprise me if they mocked that up and found out that it didn't work, either.)
