Are there different lines?

Can someone tell me...when you enter the parks, are there separate lines for those with bags/belt packs and those without?

kinda, if you have nothing you can bypass the bag check, if you ahve any kind of bag even a pocket book it needs to be checked. everyone is grouped together, not seperated by bag size.

There is a security check before the turnstyles. If you have no bags to be checked, then you don't need to stop there and can go to the turnstyles. Other wise you need to have your bags checked. Once past the security all the lines are the same. If you have no bags you do save some time bypassing the check.

There are security stations where CM's need to look into any bags/belt packs etc. going into the park. Those without any of those can just bypass the stations. They are set up like sets of counters where you can place the bags for inspection. There are lines for these. The others don't really have a line - they basically just go around them.

At Disneyland, there sometimes is a separate line, and there sometimes is not. One time, when there did not appear to be a separate line for people without any bags, I jumped the queue and asked the security personnel if I could go by as I had no bags to check, and was permitted to do so. And another time when I asked, I was refused. I think it depends on how well they are staffed at the moment.

As I recall there is always a sign indicating the way for guests without bags. DH goes that way while I get my bag checked. I always make sure that all the compartments in my bag are open before I get to the guard. It speeds up the process. I get annoyed when I'm behind someone who has a huge bag with lots of compartments and does not open anything until the guard tells them to. I have also observed that often those people get a much more thorough search.
In any case I don't think I've ever been delayed more than 2 or 3 minutes.

Thank you!!!!!! It always cracks me up when someone is standing there watching the guard ask the person in front of them open everything up and then they do nothing and the guard has to ask them.

I agree with the rest of your post, but during busy times those lines can get quite long! (8:45am, when you are tying to get to an ADR on time, vacation weeks)

If you are on the fence about having a bag, and you can eliminate it, it will make getting into the park faster. Also, that bag gets heavy over a whole day, AND you have to remember to grab it after each ride. (lots of ride you have to stow bags). If I must have a bag, I tend to wrap the strap around my leg while I'm on the ride, so I don't forget it.

Men's Cargo shorts can hold quite a bit of stuff in the pockets, esp, if they fasten! ;)

Along these same lines... are there metal detectors as you enter the park as well? Not that I plan on bringing a weapon of course! My husband has metal plates in his arm and they can really slow us down on those things.

OMG this drives me crazy...plus it's usually someone with a stroller and several bags. Thankfully the there are two lines per table so the guard can check out the bags on the opposite side while the person with multiple bags finally gets to opening them all.

I have never seen metal detectors. All those strollers would drive those things crazy.
