Are there any risks in renting out your points?

You could be held responsible for any damages. It is a risk. If you use a company to rent the points on your behalf you potentially could be protected from this risk.

If the renter damages the room, or leaves a room charge balance (though with the new pre-approval charge rules, that isn't as likely) you would not be able to use your points until the damages or balance is paid. This is really, really, really rare, but it is still a possibility.

Ugh. Thanks for both of your answers.

How does a rental service protect against this?

I think the only thing a rental company can do is help you in getting the renter to settle up, You have some help.

But, ultimately, DVC freezes an owners account until they get theOr guest to settle up. It is rare, but in some cases years ago, owners ended up just paying the bill so they could use the account,

I agree with Chuck that with the pre approval hold they do morning of check in, it has to help add another layer for unpaid changes.
