Are there any Kingdom Hearts pros out here?

Hi everyone, I think this is the first time I have posted on this board. I usually post on the Theme Parks board. I am in desparate need of help on Kingdom Hearts. My son (age 5) got a Playstation 2 with Kingdom Hearts for Christmas. My husband and I are addicted to this game (it is obviously too hard for my son but he loves to watch). Our problem is this... We can't defeat Cerberus (that three headed dog). We have tried everything we can think of. It has been days now and we just can't get past him. I run when the black stuff comes after me, I jump when he tries the earthquake type of attack and I am hitting his head from the side. What am I doing wrong? How long should this battle take. I feel like I am fighting him forever and then I still die. Any help would be great appreciated. My son wants to see Tarzan's jungle but at this rate we are never going to get there. Thanks!

According to DS (who has beaten the game) don't run from the black stuff, jump onto Cerberus and attack his heads from the back. When Cerberus does the earthquke attack...jump, don't attack.

DS brought Kingdom Hearts home & no one wants to do anything else now. It's extremely addicting! That being said, it's been a while since anyone here battled Cerberus. I do remember that we had to make sure Donald, Goofy & Sora all had plenty of Potions & Ethers (Mega if possible) to renew life during the battle. We gave Goofy the ones that can renew everyone's health & magic because he can hold the most.

The advice about hitting his heads from behind sounds right - you might want to keep it in mind for future reference, too. That strategy has worked for us with other enemies.

As you can tell from my tag I am playing also !

What level are you at? I beat him at LV 18, I think. Also is the sword your primary weapon? I am guessing it is.

I used the 'locked on' feature on one of his outerheads and just kept beating him on the side. If you can jump on top of him and beat him up that is good too. Jump & hit.
Also you need to watch your meters and heal thyself if necessary.
As piratesmate said you also need to have your cohorts item list stacked with goodies to use. Generally I give them the potions and I carry the BIG goodies...I am greedy.

You did go to Wonderland first?
Also your are equipping your equipment and abilities?
(I added this just in case.)

Oh and while your son will like Tarzan I thought it was pure torture. I am NOT good at vine jumping and was glad to be OUT OF THERE!

Right now I am in Agrabah in the Cave of Wonders...cool. Just make sure to buy potions in Traverse Town prior to going to Agrabah.

Mystery Machine - I had to LOL at your tag! I'm going through withdrawal as DS's fiance has the PS2 this week (it's her turn )

Anyway, I can't pay attention to all the meters, etc while in battle. That's why I give the mega stuff to Goofy - I let him worry about doling it out. (Donald was still "croaking" too often at that level.) I also forgot to mention that you need to get rid of the Treasure associated abilities & get all defensive abilities possible before talking to Phil.

I hate to admit it, but I'm on level 44 - I just beat Halloweentown, Atlantica & Neverland this weekend. AUGH!! I need another life!

Thanks everyone. We are still trying. I am trying to use all of your suggestions. Big question...how do you heal yourself? I think that would be very beneficial at this point. Yes, we did get through Wonderland. How I will never know but we did. I am too addicted. Any other help would be great! How long should this battle last?

I have these potions stocked and I use them during the battle. Is that what you mean by heal yourself? Is there any way to get more potions in the middle of the battle? We are taking turns playing right now but still no luck.

Yep that is what I mean. You also have Donald and Goofy stocked too I am sure. What level are you at? I was at 19.
Now for the equipment..
Donald -Warhammer, can't remember rest
Goofy- Smasher, forgot rest
Sora-Ifirits horn

I just went and played. Basically I did alot of hitting & running away and let Goofy and Donald take alot of hits & healed them if necessary& I only use the big ones...mega potion so everyone is healed & thats only when I am low.
I kind of hit & run. But be sure you deal the final blow as you want the EXP points.

I am definitely new at this Playstation thing. I don't think I have that equipment you are talking about. Where do I get that equipment? I am just hitting him with the keyblade and deflecting the fireballs. I am at a level 12. Is that the problem? Do I need to be at a higher level. If so, how do I go about doing that? Sorry I am so clueless. Thanks for the help!

Yep you need to be higher than a level 12, esp if your characters do not have upgraded weapons & armor. (I have played some of the Final Fantasy games so I know about levels & I was a level 12 before I left the island) Go back to Traverse Town or Wonderland beat up guys, get munny & level ups.

At Traverse Town you buy equipment from Cid in the Accessory Shop and at the Item shop with Huey Duey & Louie you can buy more equipment for your party.

Once you buy the equipment you click on it to equip them with it. At the right you will notice the stats of the equipment and what you want to put on your characters.

Also have you equipped your abilities? Click on abilities and if the red ball is dark go to equip and click on it to equip abilities as you earn them.

As far as Sora his primary weapon is the Kingdom Key and it won't be upgraded until you beat Deep Jungle. It is given to you. But if you go to equip I am sure that you have collected other things that you can put on him now.

GO BUY THE CHEAT BOOK (Official Strategy Guide) or find a site and download a walkthrough. I have the cheat book because I would be too lost.

Thanks for the help Mystery Machine. I am going back to Traverse Town. I actually have the strategy guide. Isn't it sad that I am this pathetic with guide book? Can you imagine what I would be like without any kind of help. Actually, my husband had to teach me how to even start the game itself so you can tell how bad I am. This was probably not the best game for me to learn how to play the Playstation on but I love Disney so much

I love this game. I managed to beat him the first time-- but I was at a high level and went for the heads.

I do have a couple of questions--

Can someone explain how the Power of Aero and Gravity work? i have them, but I don't fully understand their use.

Thank you everyone! Especially you, Mystery Machine! We finally beat Cerberus. I think the key was that we need to be at a higher level. I am just so glad to finally beat him. It wasn't that hard once we had achieved a higher level. I really appreciate everyone's help. On to the jungle!
