I was looking into renting my points because we won't be using them all this year & was wondering if there are always so many people renting out their points on the rent/trade board.

It seems that there are quite a few $9.00 & $9.50 posts....Is this normal or does it have something to do with this time of year?

Any help would be incredibly appreciated....

TIA!

some new members have banked points that must be used - they have their vacation for this year and don't really need them.

Yes sometimes there are lots of member renting points - other times they aren't any members renting points - just depends....

some people need the money more than the points - doing work on the home, car repairs, college education - that type of thing.

where they might not need to next year - but this year they do.

there are also some members (one old one) that brought their points to rent.....you don't really want my opinion on this one - right....

Oohh, :wave2: Oohh, :wave2: call on me, I think I know, I think I know who!

Back to the OP: As dues are due today, some people may be realizing that they don't have the cash to cover them. :sad2: They have that rare, or not so rare, Hawaiian disease lacka-moola.

:rotfl2: I don't think that disease is too rare! So are you suggesting renting your points is a cure for this disease? Maybe I can use this to convince DH we NEED more points...can never be too careful and then we can have the cure handy! You are too funny!

We are renting our points out this year for the first time since we got in a bit of a financial bind. I am also surprised at the amount of posts for renting points, it really is unbeleivable. There also seems to be one poster that is both renting points as well as selling them. It seems as if they are renting them from people at a low price and reselling at a higher price.

OH I think I would name names here!

Now THAT I don't approve of. I don't see anything wrong with folks renting out points to help pay off dues etc, but the practice described above seems wrong! I have a hard time understanding renting anyway. I always bank what I can't use, and they always get used eventually! :p

If people are renting low and then re-renting high, some how it will burn them. I think it's not worth making a $1.00 or 2 a point for even a few phone calls and confirmations. It seems like a desperate act.

I have recently rented to finance my upcoming trip. It was a way to go on vacation without having to take funds from savings. Besides, we have sooooo many points, we were not going to use them all in 2004 or 2005.

Renting is a great thing, when done in moderation.

I admit that I am considering buying a 200 ponit contract because i can't find one for 100 points and that is all I need right now....If I did, I would probably try to rent the other 100 points. Because so many of the older contracts are for big numbers of points back when Dis's minimum was 250, there just aren't all that many 100 point contracts out there.
It does seem like there are lots of points out there to be rented...but it also seems that most people are renting them...so supply and demand seems to still favor those renting.

I , too, can't believe someone is trying to make a buck on buying and then renting points....a dollar isn't much of an income per point and the standard doesn't fluctuate much off of 10 bucks...someone could make more panhandling or looking for coins on the beach!

I'm actually renting this year also for the first time. We're not going to WDW this year. We just have to darn much to do around the house and it 's going to be a little tight financially. So instead of letting 300 points waste away I've been renting them.

Hey....if I can't be in the place that is most near and dear to my heart, I sure can help someone else get there! :sunny:

Oh, but these few have thousands of points at all of the resorts! So a buck or two times thousands, equals many more thousands!

What they also do is book rooms during very busy times when the resorts are full, like say next week....and then sell the reservations for ridiculous amounts of money (much more than $9-10/point) because people desperately want to get a room for those busy weeks, like say next week......they pay what is being asked.

Isn't it curious when there are threads that say....."I can get you that hard to find reservation" then go on to say that "These will not be bargain prices" :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:
