Too nervous to do WDW with COVID, we have booked a 5 night stay at HHI in October to use up points that are going to expire soon. Our son has gluten and dairy food allergies. Do the quick service places at HHI do allergy orders as well as at WDW? I realize the menu is limited, but he would be very happy with things like hamburgers, hot dogs and fries. What about allergy mickey waffles at breakfast? Appreciate any input!

This was two years ago, but according to the Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free WDW blog, there are allergy menus.

You could always cook you own, stus have a microwave,toaster... and 1 BR or larger a full kitchen.

The on-site quick service place is a window with a small kitchen. I would not trust it if what you are talking about is anaphylactic shock type allergies - its simply not a large enough kitchen to avoid cross contamination. The one at the beach house is a little larger, but operates on limited hours. There aren't any other on-site food options, so you will be either cooking or eating out anyway.

My son has severe food allergies so I understand why you are concerned. I would call ahead and ask to speak with the chef. Disney is great in these situations and I imagine it is no different at HHI as far as giving you the information you need .

There isn't a chef, as Disney only has one quick service window at the resort and a second quick service window at the Beach House. By the way - Disney being great on these things is very dependent on where you are....when we were at Disneyland most quick service was not at all prepared to deal with simple gluten issues.

I assume you will have a car with you? Hilton Head has tons and tons of restaurants on the island. There is a restaurant book that you can find at many places that will describe menus and give phone numbers so you could call ahead to check about allergy free items. I usually pick my book up at Kroger each time I go. Kroger is near HHI resort. There are also the group of restaurants on the harbor just across the bridge (you walk over from the resort). They are all good. I love HH in the fall. Have fun!
