Are the Water Parks Closed if there are "Scattered Thunderstorms"?

Hi,

I'm planning on going to TL on Tues, Dec 6th. Weather.com is predicting thunderstorms that day.......Can we still go or do you think it will be closed? It probably is dangerous to swim in those conditions?

They predict thunderstorms EVERY DAY in Central Florida. If there are thunderstorms in the area of the water park, announcements will be made and if necessary they will close the water parks. Of course, there could be a storm at TL and nothing at BB.

Dec. 6 is a long way away. www.wftv.com is a great local weather station. This is the dry season so there may not be any showers. Showers are also widely scattered here. It could be raining in DTD but not at Typhoon Lagoon. If there is thunder and lightening within a certain range they will make everyone get out.

I've never been to Disney in the winter so I don't know if this is the case; but when we go in July the thunderstorms rarely last more than 20 minutes or so.

It was cloudy outside; but we decided to go to BB anyway. As soon as we scanned our tickets to get in it started to pour. The place was empty. After 25 minutes they let everyone go into the pools. The sun never came out but that didn't matter because it was so hot. We walked onto all the slides. It was great!

They shut everything down if there is lightning. It's really funny to see people wearing ponchos over their bathing suits at the water parks.

They have people that watch the local radars and will close everything if there is a severe storm with lightening heading towards Disney. Rain they don't care about. They wait as long as possible to see what the storms are doing and what the severity might be. Sometimes storms can fall apart or split before getting close enough to close the water parks.

When we were at both water parks last year, we were hit with thunderstorms. They made an announcement that the park was temporarily closed due to the weather. We took cover and waited it out and in a half hour it was sunny again and less crowded!

BTW when they mean the water park is closing due to lightening you can stay in the park and ride it out. I thought closing meant you had to leave. There is a few places to go inside. The lightening passes and then the park is near empty because the rain chased away the people. If it is just raining the park does remain open. Might be a little chilly though. Here is hoping you have a nice warm SUNNY day!

One time, they closed BB when we were there because of an approaching storm. They don't want people up in high places during a lightning storm, and most of those slides are quite a climb. So we left the park and went to dinner. By the time we were done, the storm had passed, and it was about 2 hours before the park closed, so we went back. It was great - hardly anybody was there, and we walked onto all the slides!

Lightning is very rare in florida in the winter months, We've had 2 thunderstorms? in the last week and a half. The one before Thanksgiving was very strong winds and rain for no more than an hour, but no lightning with either one. Don't worry

My best friends and I went to TL in August. Needless to say, when the daily thunderstorm blew in, we decided to wait it out. (Two of us are former FL reisdents and are familiar with the weather patterns.) When the storm still hadn't cleared out over an hour later, we decided to leave. However, since we had been in the park less than three hours, we got rainchecks (basically a free one day ticket) to the water park with no expiration. Even if it rains, it usually works out ok in the end.
I agree that the people who wear ponchos over their bathing suits are funny. They were wet before it started raining!
