Other than the theme (music, sports, movies) are the value resorts all the same? Are there any benefits to staying at one rather than the other? Proximity to the Magic Kingdom, better bus route, better food court, etc.?
All value resorts are basically the same. The All Stars are considered sister resorts, so you will be able to pool hop amongst the three resorts, and use your refillable mug at any of them if you buy one. They share buses at time. Pop has it's own bus.
I personally prefer Pop over the All Stars. I think the location is a tad bit better, and I like the theming better. I also liked the food court at the Pop better than the one at the All Star Movies--it seemed to have a better selection, and it was also brighter and cheerier IMO.
If I remember correctly - the rooms at the All Stars are just slightly bigger (by inches I believe) than POP. I have stayed at both - the only difference that I really noticed was that when you open the door into the room - it practically touched the bed in POP. I don't remember that from All Star Music - I could be wrong, though.
I also thought the location of POP was better than the All-Stars - more in the middle of things (also - we could see Spaceship Earth from our room - so that was a big plus!).
I would choose Pop. I've never stayed there, but I have walked around the resort and it is nice. The food court is awesome and like someone said before, they don't share busses- which is rare- most of the deluxes can't even say that!
Eeek! Should we try to switch from ASSports to the Pop? When we were at the ASSp last time the Pop wasn't open and we thought it was great, has anyone stayed at both and would you reccomend one over the other?
