I was reading another thread that someone said the shrimp were not
cleaned/deveined when they ate at Ohanas. Do the shrimp still have
the Veins?

We went back in August and I was so grossed out - I live by the ocean and am a freak about clean seafood, and NO the shrimp were not deveined. It was so gross, seriously....it was only one of the many things I was really dissapoined in at Ohanas.

You can't serve shrimp that are still in the shells de-veined. That's why it's called peel and eat. YOU do the work.

It's not a big deal. Just slit the shrimp and use your knife to devein it. It's not a vein either, you know. ;)

If you eat ANY seafood, you are eating something that, essentially, lives in a toilet. So, it seems a bit petty to be hung up on having to de-vein your own shrimp.

Yep. I wasn't thrilled about having to devein my shrimp, especially considering what they charge for the meal. When I make fresh shrimp at home, deveining is my job, but when I'm paying for a prepared meal in a restaurant, I expect the shrimp to be clean.

If it bothers you to clean the shrimp you can ask them not to bring the shrimp out. My husband hates cleaning his own shrimp so if it's just the two of us, he asks for them not to bring out the shrimp. If my son is there, he wants the shrimp. He could care less about cleaning his shrimp and will actually go through multiple bowls of shrimp.

I love love the shrimp at 'Ohana!! I love it so much that we have dinner ADR's twice during our upcoming 9 night stay. :thumbsup2

Actually, shrimp can be deveined in the shell. You have to use a deveining tool. My grandma owned a restaurant and always served shrimp, whether in the shell or not, deveined. When I was a kid, one of my jobs at the restaurant was to devein shrimp. Hours of delight. :rolleyes1

I eat shrimp alot and you can get shrimp that still has the shell on but the back is split and the vein is gone.

I just ordered each of my family a plastic deveiner ($1.00 each with shipping $5.50 total) for our upcoming trip.
I will put them in a ziploc and take with us.
Thanks everyone.

I can only eat shrimp (which sound strange) but I allergic to all other meat (not shrimp or fish--I have an auto-immune arthritis).

Wow I had no idea i just gobbled down the shrimp not even thinking about that:scared1: oh well i will know better for next time

Why change? They are fine the way they are. Not harmful. If the shrimp have been cooked it doesn't matter except in your head.

I don't care for the grit of the vein, I find it messes up the flavor and
texture of the shrimp.
Why would you want to eat that anyway when you don't have to?

I was there Fri Feb 5th 2010 and the shrimp WHERE devained. When i peeled them i noticed the back of the shell was split and instead of peeling from the legs i had to peel from the spilt. Seemed odd to me.
