Are the rides breaking down more often?

We just got back and we experienced quite a few breakdowns. We were forced to leave the loading areas on Splash Mountain, Pinocchio, and Peter Pan (during early entry). We also sat in a car on Indy waiting to dispatch for about 20 minutes, but at least we were comfortable. As far as I'm concerned, there are a couple of rides that are in such deplorable condition that they should be considered broken down.

Someone in line at the Matterhorn told me that when the guys in the blue shirts show up, expect that the ride is about to go down. I saw quite a few blue shirts on this trip.

I monitored wait-times on Touring Plans daily for a couple of weeks prior to our quick trip in May; it didn't report very many being down although Indy was for at least a part of every afternoon. We then planned to do it in the morning on our one DL day and sure enough it was down when we got there. Happily it was going again by early evening so we did get our chance. Other than that we didn't see anything closed at DL although we were stranded at the top of the drop on GRR for about 10 minutes late-evening over at DCL the next day.

More often than last year?

It might seem like that, but I don't think it's really that way. The busier the Parks are, the more breakdowns you are likely to experience--everything running longer hours with LARGER crowds.

When we go during a slower time, we notice fewer breakdowns:confused3.

This is why I strongly encourage my family to get up early and get to the parks at opening. Sure there is a chance then but it seems less likely. Ride the rides you want in the morning and you can coast and enjoy the rest of your day at your leaisure.

I don't think the rides stop more often, I just think they're quicker to empty the queue spend more time looking at the ride lately. They just used to come back up quicker, so you didn't always realize unless you happened to be on the ride or close to loading.

IMO, the rides at DL are down a lot more then we ever experienced at WDW. We went to WDW 5-6 years in a row and rarely had issues. At DL, with our APs, we joke about how excited we are when a ride is up and running.

We are here now and are shocked and bewildered at the number of ride closures. Just this morning Splash was closed two seperate times while we were waiting in line, RSR broke down while we riding and we had to get escorted off. When it came back up there was an hour wait for FP holders. The previous two days were just as bad with RSR opwning three hours late and Space and Grizzly River run closing after a considerable amount of time spent in line. I feel like we have spent more time waiting for rides that we didnt get to ride than those we did. I understand that the rides are closed for safety reasons, but I almost feel like we have been PunKed. I can see why locals wouldn't get bent out of shape, but after the investment in traveling from out of state and three full days in the parks, I was expecting to be able to spend more time riding and less time explaining another breakdown to the kids.

This is just a thought.... By when we were there last month and a ride went down... We were told that since OSHA came in a few months ago and issued alot of safety citations... Or fix it tickets... They said that alot of it has to do with computers.... And not actual safety stuff. But because its all computerized the ride has to be shut down. They used screaming for example. If the wind or anything changes the speed of the cart going... The computer only knows to shut it down.... Until it can be checked out. Anyway just a thought.

It does seem this year we have had to walk off/out alot more rides than usual, including one show due to technical difficulty.

I may have to eat my words. After being escorted off of RSR yesterday, we took the kids home to shower and brush their teeth and let them head back to the park in their pajamas b/c we knew it would be way (like 5 hours) past their bedtime after waiting in that FP line. When we left they were only accepting FPs and the wait was 60 minutes and standy Was 120 when we got back. We got into the FP line with our "breakdown" passes and we were told By the CM to enter all the way into the loading zone through the exits. We did so and We're able to walk right onto the ride. The kids got to ride at night, totally felt like VIPs and were in bed at a reasonable time.

Last weekend Indy was down every time I walked by. Several times on Saturday and again right after opening on Sunday.

We were there at the end of May and had the same reaction. RSR was down both mornings we went on early to ride. Luckily we hung around the area and noticed right when it opened. Pirates was down for long stretches. Indy was down a lot. Seems like others I'm forgetting.

Just got back from our first visit to Disneyland. We were there June 8-12. We are WDW veterans and it got to be a joke with our family about the ride closures.
Our last day we were doing the MM and within the hour every dark ride in Fantasyland was closed at one point or another making MM in Fantasyland useless.
During our 4 day trip, we were broke down and had to be escorted off of Monsters Inc, Indy, Matterhorn and Pooh. (I will say it was kind of cool seeing some of the inside of the rides walking). lol
On our first day we were at DL Indy was down for the first 3 hours the park was open and during our trip we saw Splash, Space, Buzz, RSR, Mater and Star Tours all down several times. We actually got scared to get on some of the rides.
It was almost like when one ride came back to working, another went down. My daughter actually asked if we thought that maybe they were taking them down on purpose for maintenance.
With the many, many times we have been to WDW combined we have never seen this many closures as we did in the 4 days at DL/DCA.

We still LOVED DL and especially DCA and made the best of it!
