Are the Reservations Are Going To Stay Forever?

Hi,
I have good news and bad news. The good news is I'm finally going to Disneyland. But the bad news is, my brother doesn't want me to have a dream key pass. So I guess I may not go to Disneyland that much anymore, unless, is the reservations temporarily or is it staying forever? If it's forever, then I'm going to have a problem.

Early indications are that it'll be here to stay. Hopefully as time goes on, it'll be more flexible for passholders, but that's not happening yet.

Before I make a dramatic behavior, what does it mean by it'll be more flexible for more passholders?

This is more just a personal thought and nothing Disney has stated. I just know a lot of people are frustrated with trying to get park pass reservations with the APs. I'm just saying it would be helpful if the system noticed AP reservations were out, but lots of availability for single day reservations that more passes would open up for APs.

My question I guess is why is your brother telling you not to get an AP?

I have heard it first hand from a Disney Exec in a closed meeting that reservations are here to stay.

Long story short with staffing shortages and covid restrictions aside as much as it sucks for us as guests it is a way for them to be able to gauge and meter attendance and staff accordingly moving forward in the long term.

I don't know, he probably some person telling him that the dream pass is a total crap. He's says there's another pass that he might want me to use. I forgot what it's called, but is not one of the magic key passes.

That makes sense. Looks like the Dream key, the most expensive one, is sold out:

And looks like you wouldn't be able to get a reservation until January with any pass and that's mostly only week days.

I don't mind going on specific Fridays only, it's better than a weekend. But I'm still going to have a problem. I guess the reservations will last forever. God, I'm so pathetic!

I don't know. I miss the annual pass, and I've heard the reservation are going to be tricky to get in even if I did get the Magic Key Pass.
A lot depends on how flexible you can be OR if you can book exactly 90 days in advance, especially if you want weekend dates. I only bought my Believe pass in October and went two Saturdays, one Friday and another Sunday last month. I have another Saturday booked in November and a Friday and Sunday booked in December, along with a Saturday and Sunday holiday weekend in January. At the time I bought the pass, nothing was available weekends for the rest of the year. But I snagged reservations when Disney opened some spots and also through cancellations. Meanwhile, the January dates I booked in advance. So it can be done, but it does take—as someone wrote elsewhere—more time and massaging than in the past with annual passes.

And some folks don't have the time or inclination (which I also understand) to deal with it. So again, can be done, but many will also say it's not worth it.

That does sound interesting. I'll think about it.

Um, are the Dream Key Passes coming back soon?

He's says there's another pass that he might want me to use. I forgot what it's called, but is not one of the magic key passes.

No one knows when, how, even IF the Dream Key might come back. The lack of reservations has been a real PR nightmare. Disney badly underestimated the number of people who would pay $1400.00 for 'unlimited access'. I have a feeling that they aren't going to come back in the same form or number when or if they do come back at all.

FYI, There are no other Disney annual passes available to the general public that get you into a Disney Park so I have no idea what your brother is talking about as far as getting 'another pass'. You have Disneyland's 'Magic Keys' and WDW's new AP program. My assumption is that your brother is paying for this pass, otherwise you could buy whatever pass you want. But that's not my business. All I can say is before you or he pays for 'this other pass' that you investigate it and be sure it really does get you into a Disney Park.

Thank you for trying, but I guess I’ll have stick with tickets for a while. If the Dream Key pass is not coming back, I give up. Looks like it’s the end of my Disneyland days. God, I’m so pathetic!

Forgive me for not understanding- why is it the end of your Disneyland days? Why does your brother get to dictate what entry media you buy? Is he paying for it? Or do you mean he’s suggested it’s the best option for you? And I don’t understand what the reservation system has to do with any of it.

I understand being frustrated by the changes - many are. And if you CHOOSE for that to be the end of your Disney days, it’s understandable. But there isn’t anything stopping you from going if you want.

I don’t know. I’m just confused. I’m living with my parents and my aunt living with us for awhile. My brother is married and living somewhere else. And I’m not so sure if the Dream Key pass will be on sale again. I’m so confused.

Are you living with your parents and have your own income or do you have to rely on your parents income? Then I can understand your brother's opinions on what you do with the money, as it is then also your parents money. And your brother can be concerned if due to your disney visits your parents have less to spend.

If you have your own income, your brother can still be concerned if your disney spending is a reason for you to live with your parents and not being able to live on your own.

If that is also not the case, it is interesting to investigate for yourself why your brother thinks he can dictate your spending or why his opinion is so valuable to you that it prevents you from doing what you love.

A thought that doesn't seem to come up, the key is for a year, it is not a lifelong commitment you can never change again. If available you can try another key for a period and upgrade to dream, if available, if it doesnt fit your needs. Or cancel and only go with regular tickets. Then the issue about the reservations, which I do not really understand anyway, is gone too.

Either way, do your own research.

The Dream Key is not the only key. A cheaper option is the Believe Key, with some blockout dates including holidays and some weekends. It has the same number of reservations you can hold as the Dream Key. Why not look into that?

Stick with tickets. I have the Dream key and I have trouble getting reservations with the way I like to visit. If I knew what it would have been like, I wouldn't have bought a Key. If booking reservations remains the same as is it right now, I won't get a Key next year. It will be easier to book a couple visits with tickets.
